The Kern Valley is in Southern CA, and there are many places to camp and climb. Where are you climbing? That may make suggestions easier.

True... the KRV is long, has many spots to climb, most are weather dependant and from what I know the fishing sucks. The climbing goes from overhanging limestone to uber low angle impossible slab.

I was looking into areas further north around the needles where the vegitation is a little more lush. I would also be open to suggestions in the Kings area where there is good camping/climbing and fishing

Around the Needles.... Dome Rock, with free camping right there. The rest depends if the roads are open.... I think they are waitin a long time this year.... memoral day, i bet. :>( Kings Canyon .... its a Nat Park so no BLM free camping. Right now Shuteye... back by Mammoth Pool, would be great. I hear the river has good Brown fishing. have fun

When are you headed there? It's always possible to drive down to the Kern and fish for goldens...depending on when you plan on going and the road conditions.

I suspect that Hwy. 190, which is the access for Dome Rock and area, may be closed for the season. It's usually closed about 2 or 3 miles north of Dome Rock and about 10 miles or so south of it. I'd check with the forest service. It's been such a slight snow year that they may open it early.
