Predictions on the condition of gunks this weekend?

I'd love to climb at the gunks this Sunday (April 6), but I'm not sure if it will be dry. Does anyone with a lot of experience climbing there have a prediction on how dry it will be? Forecast is for rain today of course, and a bit of rain tomorrow morning, but then mainly clear. I also don't know how much snow melt there is (in lower Westchester we're snow free).

Thanks in advance!

I think sunday will be the better day

Snow is gone, except patches in a few isolated dark pockets. Jugs have water and corners are seeping. Kens Crack is flowing. The carriage roads and trails to cliff base are dry. The ground is dry in exposed areas, although there will be some boggy spots. Climbing season is on for all but the wimpiest.

I think Sunday should be great! Saturday will probably be wet from tonight's rain, but you can head to the walls that always seem to stay dry, like Arrow area.

Just called the park -it's closed for an extra week.

If Peterskill is closed you can always head to Millbrook.

It's going to be horrible. No matter what, don't go. Wait at least two more months.

it probably won't dry out till monday or tuesday unless it gets REALLY sunny.

My $0.02 - Sunday will be fine. The hike out to M'brook will encounter significant snow. Hit the Trapps; it'll be fine.

I climbed Tuesday, remarkably dry . . and yesterday's (Friday) rain will be gone by Sunday 6th.
I got humbled Tuesday, I'm looking to climb Sunday but only the *easiest* routes ~ 3 Pines, Easy-V, Northern Pillar (stuff I usually solo) until I'm back in form and health . . let me know if you're looking for a pard, I can be at Stairmaster lot by 10am

I climbed on Friday. Despite the raw, wet and cold conditions we managed to get on 8 or 9 remarkably dry pitches. It rained last night and things were soaked this AM. It's windy, mostly cloudy, 45 degrees right now. I will go out in the noonish range today. Tomorrow looks rather promising!

There are some snow patches around (start of Raunchy, wild horse, gory thumb)but 99.99% of it is gone. I saw some ladybugs on the rock yesterday...I took that as a sign of good things to come. There are lots of downed trees (some rather large trees uprooted...kind of makes you a little nervous depending on those rap trees right?) There was even a downed deer, it looked like it fell from the top of the cliff.

Anyone heading up to the Gunks from NJ for day trip on Sunday? Would love to catch a ride instead of hitchhike! I'm in central NJ and I have about a 25 mile radius with my company car so I can meet you en route. Im happy to pitch in for gas and love swapping stories. Cheers, James 307-399-3380.

saw that deer a few weeks ago and it definitely looked like it fell from the top. When we were there it looked mighty fresh, and there was still 2-3ft of snow at the top of the trapps.

As for all the downed trees, some of those things are a good bit bigger than the twigs I rapp off of.

Gunks were/are in great shape. Nearly no snow anywhere and only nominal wetness on the climbs. Spring is here. ;)

Agreed, it was a fantastic day, enjoyed by several hundred (thousands?) of climbers. The season is well open.

Thanks for all the posts (which encouraged me to go, definitely the right decision).
