that escalated quickly! from slc myself and live in ft collins now. i love all the tribal states rivalry.....(the same way i love hmmmm dropping my plate of nachos or spilling my whiskey after a long ice route) btw i think everyone could use a large pull of some beam and a hard pull down on some stone. honestly didn't even think the cops were able to pursue such a thing....wow

Perhaps it was an officer of the Republic of Cottonwood Heights, sounds like this would be right up their alley - battling true crime as opposed to really doing their job.

Mason, and everyone else that does this, stop putting on a yard sale at the crowded crags and you won't lose half of the gear you have strewn all over the place and can't keep track of.

Also, other people, when you approach a yard sale of shit all over the base of the crags, please just collect it and throw it in a pile.

Don't plop your goddamned packs right on top of it and then pick it up later realizing you kinda hid it with your layer of gear and packs.

And never, ever involve the fucking cops. EVER.

I got a little of that vibe, too. How hard is it to communicate?

Really? Involving the cops. They have better things to do that track down $100 worth of climbing gear.

I don't know about this. OP waited 2 days to post on MP for his lost gears. Now that he knows where his gears are, thanks to Spencer, but he can't wait more than 3 days and has to get police involved? The gears could have been long gone but now there is a chance to get them back? Better call the cops because this guy has not responded for 3 days.

Anyways, I am just bumping the thread so more people can see and know about this Mason guy. Judge it yourself. I know I will think twice about returning gears going forward.

Golly gee, climbers never go anyplace a cell phone won't work for a few days...

Maybe next time the OP can interview the person that is going to find his forgotten gear and make sure their communication skills are up to par....

Sheez,

Booty was so much easier before the internet! We just kept it! Although, I did get a stuck #1 friend back once in 1987, but I was the law at the time and had given the climbers a not so legal ride to the cliff.

Spencer, I know some ex-New Jersey climbers in Boulder who would be happy to have an Old School "East Coast Style" conversation with Mason. That way you may actually wind up with some of the booty after an appropriate commission is determined.

Sounds like Mason should be sending Spencer at least a case of cold ones.

Note: I couldn't decide which smarty-pants reply to use so I included all of them.

Just because we happen to enjoy the same form of outdoors recreation doesn't entitle you to my time. Shipping gear back to idiots is a ways down my priority list, it's not going to happen until the weekend at best and I certainly won't exchange 15 texts to set it up. If you want to gear back NOW, start by not leaving it behind. As Spencer pointed out, why would he contact the OP if he didn't want to send the gear back.
"Hey dude, just wanted to give you a heads up, I found your stuff and your thread about it but won't be returning any gear. Here's my full contact info BTW. OK bye."
Right, that makes perfect sense.

OP is an entitled twat who couldn't satisfy himself with a guy offering to return his gear on his own schedule (more than 4 days). If he offered $50 for $100 worth of gear, he's clearly not strapped for cash so the financial argument is moot.

You know, that Matt Samet guy just came out with a book about climbing ettiquette. Sounds to me like this would be a good place to plug it.

Yeah, wondering if any apology filtered down - Spencer?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
