Need to pick up some half ropes - they are fawking expensive. Any cheap site to get a pair for less than the $400 it looks like I'll have to spend??? If anyone has a set that's new night he willing to take them off your hands

Gear Express has some for under $300

GearX also has Mammut 7.5s for about $300.

JustRopes has a bunch for somewhere around $300, and I think there's a 20% off coupon floating around.

Based on your location, let me take a guess: You've been working your way through the ADK classics in Keene Valley, and now this season you are ready to step it up and go do some of the bigger lines at Poko, thereby requiring double ropes for the raps. Or maybe you're a Gunkie; I'll try not to judge you if that's the case.

Anyway, I have a set of like-new double ropes that I've been thinking about selling. Mammut Genesis, 8.5, 60 m, one orange, one blue. Really good ropes for general NE rock climbing, more durable and confidence inspiring that the really flyweight ice twin type rope, but still at a reasonable weight. I think that 8.2-8.6 mm doubles are generally more appropriate for standard Northeast double-rope cragging than the super-skinny 7.5s advertised above. You want something that will hold up better to rock abrasion and that you feel ok whipping on; I think the really skinny ropes are more suited to ice or alpine use, where you won't be falling on then, and you'll see less abrasion (on ice). Anyway, these handle well, and generally don't kink. I like them a lot, and would keep them if I had any use for them (but I don't). I got them for a trip to Zion, but that trip never happened and since then I've gotten sidetracked by being an anorexic sport climber, so I don't foresee using them much in the near future. I've probably only used then ~5 times, so I should probably sell. Also, I'm moving soon, and as such am trying to pare down the amount of stuff I need to move.

Again, like-new condition. I have made one modification to them. They don't come with a factory installed middle mark, which I think is dumb because even with double ropes, knowing where the middle is can be quite useful. As such, I marked the middles with a Beal rope pen, which is designed/approved to use on ropes without affecting the integrity of the nylon, so I guess that this means that the pen doesn't contain any battery acid or cat pee. Anyway, nice thick black mark, very visible on the orange rope, somewhat less so on the blue. I would consider this an upgrade.

What would you think of $220, plus shipping? If you drive a hard bargain, I might be willing to split the shipping cost.

PM or call if interested, want more info, etc. jonmoen1@yahoo.com 4105079739

I know they aren't know for their quality, but I bought the petzl halves for right under $200 total a few weeks ago at EMS. I don't think they even have them online, but in the stores they have all of them marked a lot down, and sale stuff is (or was) an extra 20% off. basically buy one get one free.

That is exactly what I've been looking for! Actually headed to Laurels knob and Looking glass this summer and planning to run up some ice/mixed goodness in the ADK this winter. Lol definitely not a Gunkie, the place is extremely convenient (live 35 minutes away during the school year) but the bigger mountains are the goal.

Thanks for the deal JCM, ill shoot ya a text or something tomorrow.

Nice. Looking Glass is awesome. Yeah, just text/pm/whatever at some point if you think you'd be interested, and we can work something out.

That's a great deal on the Genesis half ropes. I've been using mine for several years and they've really held up well. You'll be glad to have them at Looking Glass and especially at Laurel Knob.

+1 for the Mammut 7.5s. Mammut ropes handle the best of any that I've used.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
