I'm trying to pull off a mid-week escape, but unfortunately that means I can't fully unplug from email. Is there AT&T cell coverage at either of the campgrounds? If so, is it good enough for light data? If not, how close to Canon City do you have to be to get a decent signal?
We can get verizon and t-mobile. Data however is sporadic and unreliable.

It's more the line of sight to Canyon City that matters. So up at the Bank parking area, I think the coverage is actually better than Sand Gulch for me, but still just usable for texting.
Imma go on a little rant here now because cell technology is frankly pathetic these days in my opinion. It's as if they could build enough towers for good coverage, but instead they choose to have a bunch of stray dogs with copper wires sticking out of their anuses as cell repeaters. I get barely one and a half bars in downtown Colorado Springs sometimes. So on behalf of consumers around the world, fuck you.
I'll second the line of sight comment. I have AT&T and get good coverage at the Bank lot/campground but lose signal as soon as drop altitude so I can't imagine you'd get good signal at Sand Gulch although I haven't tried in a while. I would say you likely won't get back to good signal till you're pretty much in Canyon City.
I have an older iPhone with AT&T. I usually have 3-4 bars and can send/receive texts from: the Bank and Sand Gulch camping areas, along with Sand Gulch, The Bank, and Cactus Cliff.
