Hello all.

I am seeking a partner (or possible mentor) for Seneca. I have an INTENSE desire to learn to lead trad so I will happily belay, follow and clean for you. I lead sport up to 5.10c and have followed trad up to 5.8 and willing/able to push further.

I will bring an intense will to learn, everything I need to efficiently follow, I can bring a rope, and I have money for beer!

Money for beer you say. I'm an ok leader at Seneca not sure you would learn the best efficiency or that I would be at the grade you want, but if you call the Gendarme/ Climbing school they can put your info on the white board down there for finding a partner.

Get in contact with the Potomac Mountain Club. This is the best climbing club in the country. A very active group of all types of climbers. From international mountaineers, big wall climbers, older retired climbers who did awesome stuff back in the day, to the noob who has only been spot climbing in the gym. They climb often and have several free instructional clinics over the calendar year. They have a learn to place gear and trad climb clinic, ice climbing clinic, mountaineering clinics, whatever you want. Keep in mind this is a volunteer club so the instructors are just experienced climbers and not guides, but they are happy to share what they know. They keep it cheap and just like to climb. They also have a list serve that automatically emails everyone and people use it to hook up with partners.

Best way to hook up with them is to climb Carder Rock on Wed evenings (not today, cliff closed due to police training) or go to one of their monthly meetings. Here's their website.

Kdionise,

I go to Seneca occasionally and would be willing to teach you the "ropes". I'm 35 and have been climbing for 15 years. I was lucky enough to have a few good mentors in my life to teach me the basics of traditional leading. I guess it's time to pay it forward. Plus, my son Jack is 3.5 years old and I need to practice teaching somebody first before I put my son's life in general. Just kidding, haha.

I live about 3 hours from Seneca and could easily make a weekend trip or possibly even a day trip with some notice.

Joe

Second what Eric said. The PMC is a great regional resource.

I'm hoping to get out to Seneca often during April and May as well, bit am rehabbing from an injury and a few months off, so ahh...mellow trad for me! Doesn't make the place any less fun though.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
