i haven't reviewed the RPTM yet, but i do have a copy of gimme kraft. i think i can say though (knowing mark and having had small glimpses of the new book, etc) that the two books are entirely different.

i would characterize gimme kraft as primarily a training book that focuses on supplemental excercises, primarily core and shoulder related. i use a hand full of these exercises during my one night a week core/shoulder workout, and there are some really good exercises in the book.

in terms of gimme kraft as a primary climbing training book, i didn't really see anything in there that hasn't already been provided in other training books. also, there isn't really any sort of plan on how to put any of it together, how to build a program, how to measure improvement, etc. it is kind of just a random assortment of fun activities. i think it can give you a list of fun stuff to do at the gym, but i was disappointed that there wasn't more meat to it.

I would say the two books are quite different. Our book takes a comprehensive approach towards improvement, addressing all aspects of climbing performance (skill development/technique, strategy & tactics, mental aspects) in addition to the physical aspects. Furthermore, we address all the physical aspects of performance (endurance, strength, power, power endurance) with a special emphasis on improving finger strength.

I just pre-ordered my copy. When I receive my book I fully expect to climb a full number grade better. Monomaniac is THAT good!

Hey Mono, is there a deal to order the manual, logbook, and RPTC as a package?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
