Starting a Trad Rack

Screw tricams what you need is pitons |

Tri cams = style points |
|
Not.... climbing fast, climbing clean, getting up big climbs are the what gets you style points. |
|
lol style points, getting down safely is points, getting up and down depends on your style. |

Eric Chabot wrote:Tri cams = style points hexes = mega style pointsNo doubt. When I hear that clinking cowbell noise at the crag I know some seriously heinous gnar is about to go down. That, or someone is about to epic on Double Dip. Probably about 50/50 either way. |

Hear the cowbells at Cathedral and it is 99% assured that someone is about to epic on Thin Air :) |

I used tri-cams before I could afford a full rack of cams. I think it is all personal preference. I still use them often. They are lighter and cheaper. Once you get larger than the brown though you are better off with a cam in my opinion. Personally I love them. |

Haters gon hate. If you lead supercrack at indian creek on hexes, you are a BAMF and receive the style points. |

I would recommend a set of the DMM offsets nuts, master cams, and .5-#3 Camalots. your hexes will work as doubles for now. as for tricams, buy pink and if you like it buy more |

I carry one large hex sometimes for noise effect... |

Everyone missed it. That is a rack that will get you up everything except offwidth. No tricams or hexs required here. DMM offsets still a perfect compliment to standard rack of nut. |

LCC-Climber wrote: And yet the cult following swears by them....Because they're awesome. The new Camp tri cams (at least the smaller ones) now have stiffer slings on them, which IMO makes them a lot easier to place. I never go anywhere with the pink size anymore, and can almost always find a bomber place for it. Depending on the route I have even been known to *gasp*...carry ye olde yellow boat anchor sized tri cam. In all honesty I took that thing up like two climbs, its huge...But if you need to huck a piece of gear mid route at a squirrel attempting to steal the lunch from your pack, its quite accurate and carries a lot of velocity. Also, the post above is absolutely correct. DMM offsets are great! |

I had that big yellow 5" tricam. Not sure how much they cost these days? If they were less than half the price of a #5 cam i would consider it as an option for the desert. |

Bought mine new when REI put them on clearance for $25.( bought a 6 and 7) Yeah, I do use them all the time in Pond Bank. |
