Well, I didnt see PA on the list for this section but I couldnt find it anywhere else so I figured this was the closest I could get. I am thinking about taking a travel Nurse position in Williamsport PA. I have researched some mountain biking in the area and looks like there will be some fun riding fairly close by. But my question is about the climbing. does anyone know if there is any climbing in the area? and if not where would be the closest crag I could get to? Looks like the Gunks are a little over three hours away, but what about anything closer? Just doing some digging around to see what my options will be.
i haven't climbed in this area too much but i have hiked in it extensively. There is a number a really epic waterfall hikes that are reminiscent of canyoning i have done. If you end up in the area check out hiking: the endless mountains by jeff mitchell. For climbing ricketts glen is less then an hour away and it was ice in the winter. There is also some climbing in the loyal-sock forest and worlds end state park both of which are pretty close to williamsport. but like i said, haven't climbed there too much
I climb at Safe Harbor all the time. It would be 2.5 hours from Williamsport. Birdsboro Quarry is a similar distance from you. I've never been to Ohiopyle, but it's 3.5 hours away from Williamsport. Those are the main PA crags, but there's a ton of bouldering everywhere.
On the Pa climbing page on this site it directs you here to the Eastern Climbing forum, so you're posting in the right place. On that Pa page there are some links to external Pa climbing pages probably worth checking out. Have you clicked on the google map on the Pa page to locate different climbing areas near you?
