I think that's awesome. Why wouldn't you be an advocate of making someones year?

It's based on the Freegan philosophy.

At the gym my wife and I go to a couple times a week, there is a recreation therapist that brings some of her patients. There is this one fellow with cerebral palsy and blindness that jumars up the rope and then is lowered off by the therapist. This helps to keep his upper body working and not in a contracted state and the fellow seems to really enjoy it. So, why not?

I think it's awesome, why bring the whole damn chair up though?

My wife is a Recreational Therapist and uses this type of activity frequently. The reasoning is simple the participant in this picture is getting the same thrill and enjoyment from doing this activity that any of us do from recreating (climbing). Just because someone does not have the use of limbs or the physical capacity should not limit them from the enjoyment of the sport. I can guarantee that the person in the wheel chair felt a great sense of accomplishment from doing this activity.

The chair is probably more comfortable than hanging limply in a harness while ascending a rope

Because this gave someone a totally new perspective on life they would have other wise never been able to experience if the guy behind this person hadn't taken the time to show them. Your an ass for posting this by the way...

Hard to understand why someone would post this just to get a rise out of someone. Some people are just shitty I guess....

Wishing cancer on people, hating on the disabled.... Elena has really stepped up her game. This thread should be deleted.

That's one thing. The rig could definitely be done much better. Secondly, the shorts....that is a problem in itself..I think. Third, ok I get it. I am a nurse and I have a not exactly a disability but a mobility limitation. Where do you draw the line of " enabling the disabled" ? Does the kid even care or understand the complexity of the effort performed? Will he remember it at all?
Hey I get it. It makes you feel good to do things for those who can't. I do it myself every day. The rig with the wheelchair and all is weak. If I saw this at the crag....well that's another thread.

Time for a new profile. Ye?

Heck ye Tom I'm pretty self absorbed. So are 99% of climbers statistically. The 1% are the all self less girlfrieds/ spouses/ boyfriends/ parents. Fact.
Food for thought. I figured I will be a freegan...on my terms. More to come on that subject..hahaha
Were you talking about the disableds or....damn!

If you want some insight as to why people might enjoy challenges such as the one you crated this thread over, maybe take some time to check out ParadoxSports on Facebook

Guess what? There are as many reasons why the team in that picture are climbing as any other climbers.

Timmy O'Neill, who is involved with Paradox Sports, has done numerous slideshows and appearances which include video clips of some of the incredible efforts made by people with adaptive abilities and others who work with them. You might want to attend if you get the chance.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
