We discovered what was left of Tommy and Beth's portaledge halfway up the route. After being forced from their camp in 2000 by terrorists, it was abandoned. My guess is that the heavily armed and bored Kyrgyz military continued firing on it until it broke free. They mentioned to us their affinity for doing target practice on the big walls.
