Gunks Ranger Position Open

Park rangers have nothing to do with the first 2. As for the third, if you were in the right bivy then the issue would never come up. Sure, no one is there and you could sleep there with no issue. But that wasn't the agreement you made with the park.

Regardless, enforcing the rules on the 10% that don't follow the rules is only a small and undesirable portion of the job. Like having to take the trash out from a restaurant. No one signs up to take the trash out, that's just 10% of the job you have to do to get the good 90%. That doesn't make them douche bags in the slightest.

I witnessed, or rather heard the screams of, a 30+ft groundfall at the gunks last summer. Right on the route next to me while I was rapping down. By the time I could finish my rap and change my shoes, there was a Ranger on the guy and he was already orchestrating the fellow climbers to help get him on the backboard and out of the crag and into his pickup to be transported to an ambulance or helicopter. He already had a ziplock bag taped to the guy with the pieces of his elbow that shot out all over the rocks.
It was very surreal, and while it freaked me out to be part of that, there was something remarkably calming about the way this Ranger handled the situation and pulled off getting this guy down those tricky steep gunks approaches from the carriage road.
When I was walking back to my stuff, I decided right then that I will never, ever complain about paying my entrance fee. It wasn't even me that was hurt and it was worth every penny I've ever spent gaining access to the gunks.

Agreed. Though this is also a compelling argument for why paying these folks $11/hr is so absurd.

I'm just going to assume the position posted is for some college student to enjoy. The Ranger in my encounter had a stethoscope, I'll assume again that he's paid more than $11 an hour.

sadly EMT's that work for private ambulance companies usually make less.

I'd be an awesome ranger,,letting the climbers slide by for 5 bucks I'd pocket myself, no $17+ costs per day, make the rich folks coming from Skytop pay 20 bucks to hike into Trapps on the carriage road,,,yep I'd put the place in order with no problems at all.
