Conditions at the RRG or any other crag in the midwest.

Hey guys, I'm planning a trip with some buddies to get out and climb at the beginning of april. We live in the chicago area and would prefer to drive as we don't have much money for air fare. Unfortunately the weather at the RRG looks questionable right now.

I've never been to the red and have heard of some spots there that are decently covered during rainfall. Does anyone have first experience of this? Also, are there any other crags worth the drive from chicago that might have good weather from like april 1st to the 6th?

We typically trad like 5.6 and 5.7 at devils lake. On sport, were pretty comfortable in the 10's.

Thank you for any insight and information.

Conditions at the red are good but it is still pretty chilly there at night. If you want trad you should go a few hours further and go to Chattanooga. Hit up Twall, Foster Falls, Castle Rock, and Stone Fort. 72 and sunny all week last week besides one day. Still cold at night there too.

I'm headed down for 13th to 25th and counting on lovely days in 60's at least, but imagine nights will still get down to 30's most of the time......way better than RRR party weekend that should be a total freeze out like last year was.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
