Accessory Cord Anchor

I have a length of Sterling 8mm Accessory cord. It is long enough that I can tie the ends with a triple fisherman's and make a quad out of it with eights as the knots on either end. As seen here: youtube.com/watch?v=Dhs6EQt…

My questions are:

Is this cord acceptable to use as a top rope anchor with, say, two bolts close together?

I have only seen this done with overhand knots? Is the reason not to use eights because of saving rope?

What are the advantages/disadvantages to this setup (assuming its ok) to, say, using two quickdraws or slings?

Thanks in advance for helping a beginner,

absolutely acceptable, use two opposite/opposed biners(preferably at least 1 locking) for the rope to run through, and top rope on it all day long.

Yes, that's a bomber set up.

Make sure to have your climbing rope running through a locker and non-locker (opposite and opposed of course), and you'll be set.

This is a great set up due to its redundancy and lack of extension, and it can equalize to a degree. If you tie your limiter knots closer together you can reduce the amount of possible extension in the system.

Also, I usually have my double fishermen's knot in-between my limiter knots and clip all three stands except the double fisherman's knot strand. That's just me, what you have set up is great.

The 8mm cord is also very acceptable, you could even go a few mm's thinner and still be perfectly fine.

To be honest, as far as top roping off two bolts is concerned, I can't think of any disadvantages to this system compared to others. I can however think of lots of advantages.

Have fun and be safe!

I use one for that exact purpose. I keep it pre rigged with overhand knots, because I'm not concerned with untying them, and 4 lockers. One on each end, and two at the power point (two strands each). The benefits, to me, are a simple pre rigged, setup. It is also fully redundant, self equalizing, with limited extension. The only things I do differently is tie the limiterlimiter knots closer together, about 10" apart. And 2 lockers on 2 strands each at the PP.
Hope this helps.

Would you guys use 6mm for a similar setup?

Thanks for such quick replies. They were really helpful in confirming my confidence in this anchor set-up.

6mm is actually what I use.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
