camping at moores

whats the deal with camping at moores wall?

Hanging rock state park has pay campsites.

If that is full moores spring campground is about 5 minutes from moores wall parking lot. They allow alcohol too so bonus!!! I prefer it because it is usually less crowded and you can arrive at any time in the night. Just text the guy and he will give you the code to the lock.

so nothing by way of free camping there?

No free camping and unfortunately Moore's Springs Campground is now shutdown.

It has been in the works since late last year. They finally announced the shutdown about a week or two ago. State and County political bullshit.

It is retarded moore's spring was privately run and self supporting with no government money yet all the bullshit they get shutdown. Retarded. I hate NC camping at parks because they shutdown in the winter and you can't leave at night.

And it is dangerous because you have to wait for the ranger to come and open the gate if you need to leave for an emergency. Dangerous and stupid.

Its a convoluted mess. The campground and trail system were managed by a local climber and biker, great guy. They were on 4H club land, Camp Sertoma, and NC State cut funding to its 4H Clubs so they shut the area down. Its much more complicated then that but that's the short of it.

No, hanging rock state park is the only option. It's not a bad option, it's a nice campground. You can walk to the 2 mile boulders from there (and Moore's Wall if you really want to)

....but no beer is allowed, at least legally.
