Skiing & ice partner wanted: mid march

Hey all. I will be out in SLC march 17th thru the 25th and would like to get a couple early morning runs in nearby town. I have class the 17th thru the 20th which I need to be in at 8 am. But want to try and get a run in prior. The remaining days I will be in PArk City and would like to get into the backcountry once or twice between hitting the lifts with the GF. early mornings would work best for me. Have avy gear and common sense.

I dont plan on brining my ice gear with me as well as my time is limited and dont feel like paying extra to bring it out with me for no reason....but if anyone wants a partner for any of those days let me know! Can lead wI3 comfortably and will follow up to WI5

Plenty of folks like to ski...they just maybe don't troll climbing forums for ski partners...ha ha.

Ice season is pretty done here by end of Feb on a normal season (last year being the exception).

You might try your hand at a post on TGR or just show up at a popular trailhead in the early morning and try to tag along with a crew. People find their dawn patrol partners and then covet and hang on to them like the precious metal they are...

hahahaha.....unfortunately I dont really have any other options. I have class from 8-5 every day.

I guess I will take your advice and just show up at the trailhead and hope someone comes along that doesnt mind a tag-along.

And yea....Ive got no issues breaking trail for you driver....lol.

For short (3+ hrs.) solo tours near town:

In Big:
Butler Trees/Circle All Peak, parking right at Butler Fork trailhead.
Mill D standards Short Swing/Powder Park/Tom's Hill/Reynolds/Little Water, etc. This offers lots of options and you could go back again as you scout the terrain. There's a parking lot for Spruces Campground. Always good tracks in place. Safe exits.
Beartrap/Beartrap Trees. You'd have enough time to do the trees and finding them is not too difficult assuming you find the trailhead, which is not really marked.
Willow Fork/Willow Heights/Wills Hill. This gives quick access to the Park City ridgeline but you have to be very cautious about dropping in over there, and doubt you'd have time anyway. Access is across from upper Solitude. Exit from Willow if missed could cause grief. USA Bowl is also there but I don't go there alone. Willow Heights would be the better bet, but watch out for rollovers in Willow.

In Little:
Pink Pine from White Pine trailhead. Quick and scenic, not hard to find, easy exit, you can lap it. The farther you go up the Pink Pine ridge the greater the hazard. Other routes are more difficult to suss out onsite solo. You could also just run up to Pole Line Pass or Flagstaff from the Our Lady of Snows and ski south facing if conditions warrant. That can be real good.

Mill D, Beartrap Trees or maybe Willow would be my suggestions given your limited time. Circle All is fun if its not too warm then and easy to find, its a quickie. Just ski the trees from the ridge rather than ski from the summit or you'll risk getting lost. Not knowing your skiing level and such, I'd say your best bet is Mill D, as you can usually run into someone who'll tell you which trail to take. The aptly named Short Swing is the first option you encounter and quick. Or, go on to Powder Park or ski Tom's Hill (S. Ridge if in) or S Face/SW Ridge of Little Water (access from Dog Lake).
