Looking for camp site for 1 person in Yosemite Valley May 19-21--share Pines? advice re: camp 4?

I would like to do the mountaineering school during the day, sleep at night. There don't seem to be any reservations left for any of the Pines. Do I need to just arrive at 6 am and try for Camp 4?

It's just me, I have my own tent and stuff, don't need anything fancy. Am coming from SF. Happy to share ride, expenses, but just a place to sleep would be great.

If anyone has any advice for how to plan this, please chime in.

Thank you!
Vaughn

Camp 4 is the spot. Arrive early and you'll be fine.

Do you know if I can get to the mountaineering school by 8:30 if camp 4 doesn't open until 8?

Is the Yosemite website, which says "you are unlikely to get a first come first served campsite in May or June" reliably wrong?

Thanks!

In may and June you'd be screwed. I've waited every morning for a week and not gotten a spot. Right now should be better. If your doing the course thru yosemite mountain school then the office is right by curry village about a 15 min drive from camp 4.

What I would do if I were you is camp outside the park and get up at 4AM. There is a nice site by the river by the west entrance which is closest to the valley floor. Drive to Camp 4 and park your car in the overflow parking across the street from Camp 4 by the lodge.

Then take your sleeping bag and sleeping pad to sit at the kiosk till it opens. It sucks, but I've never had an issue doing this. And you should be first in line if you get there before 5AM. Which theoretically could mean you have time to get to the mountaineering school assuming everyone is on time and your times are right.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
