From what I read it's almost all Fiat (at least the diesel powertrain), would you say that's an improvement?

Dodge knows a thing or two about large Diesels, so maybe the small one is OK. I've never heard a good thing about any of their transmissions though, new or old.

Fiat OTOH, is a complete unknown. Other than the little smart car competitor, they are pretty much unknown here.

We went with the Dodge for a couple reasons. The Promaster has a larger interior volume than the sprinter with the same wheel base. The Dodge is front wheel drive which I like. It has a smaller engine they claim to get mid 20's in mpg. It's about 4000 less than the Mercedes version and because we bought it brand new, got the bumper to bumper 100,000 mile warranty. I'm going to start another thread specifically about my process building it.

From what I've read, fiat has made this van for a while in Europe it's new to US though.

The reply to the jibberish posted above was full of nasty comments and general STFUpedness that I removed it so Mountain Project wouldn't have to

certain parts of these threads remind me of a group of 6 year old boys following a girl around the playground poking her constantly while telling her she is a dumb smelly girl

Funny and true. In our case a favorable condition.

One thing I found out is I do enjoy being viewed as "commercial" . You sit high up which gives you a great view of the road. Let's you enjoy the road and driving much more than in a shorter vehicle. You get more respect on the road in a van. I feel the vibe on Home Depot and other parking lots. Looking forward to parking next to a "big boy RV" at Wall mart and being a legit part of the "village" . Very much psyched!
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
