From U. K. CLIMBING
"Charlie Porter has died in Punta Arenas, Chile after heart problems.

Already famous for hard first ascents in Yosemite, in 1975 he soloed a first ascent on Mt Asgard on Baffin Island and in 1976 made the first solo ascent of the Cassin Ridge on Denali, in 36hrs.

Charlie had spent the last decades based out of the deep south of Chile, running various yachts for scientists and climbers. He avoided the spotlight, but continued his adventures, including supporting the Venables/Rosekelly climb on Mt Sarmiento in 1995.

Vale Charlie Porter."

It's amazing that there is so little feed back on this Climbing site about the passing of this powerful energy.
Obviously very few mountainprojecters know very much about Charlie Porter at all!
This is a very condensed bio and well worth the time.

Olaf, perhaps it is so stunning that most of us really don't know what to say. Charlie was an amazing climber and wild spirit. His vision was amazing. It seems unreal to hear of his passing. He inspired a lot of us!
