Fairly accurate I'd say. Those minus 15 and below make the ice sooo brittle, it's true that more of it is fracturing and blasting past your face from tool placement than is left to climb on. Nothing beats end of season, mid 40's styro-ice that takes tools with ease and comfort. I love it!!! Thank-you to the Groundhog for giving us 6 more weeks of winter this ice season.....think we might get week 7 or 8 out of it around here if lucky.
Bumping this for seasonal appropriateness and being pretty spot-on. And in New England right now, you get to have 3 and -10/-15 degree C experiences at the same time ;)
Word of wisdom: always drive a car with working heater when going on ice climbing trip. You may not be cold while climbing but after sitting in the car for awhile it is rather uncomfortable.
