So does the addition of a GoPro predispose people to unwise behavior?

Dude! He was pounding the hell out of it though... Lucky he didn't have any pro in... The shot just before it goes shows the rope free hanging.

While I don't blame him for trying the absolutely bury each tool (he was effectively soloing the pitch), I found myself wondering if he would have broken it off if he were using, say, Cassin tools (REALLY thin picks, for those who haven't used them). It is a bias of mine, but I think of Nomics as something of a blunt instrument for ice.

This video gives a little more insight into this incident. Super crazy, and I can't believe he made it out with no injuries! Maybe a small blow to his ego, but it didn't seem to phase him much considering he was out climbing the next day!

Possibly, but I've never had an issue with my nomics overall. It is possible they were a bit dull too due to some mixed stuff. I think it had everything to do with where he was placing the tool, kind of like an avalanche, right at the roll over of the bulge. Interesting how his other tool placements were relatively mellow, but this one he was really having trouble with. It noticeably plated after the first try. Very lucky, definitely pushing the "old, bold" rule!

I would probably need a day or two off after such an event...

I've never used the Nomics but that was my thought too: a less than ideal place to try to put your tool. Not to say I would have done any better, of course. I would have been too scared to even get on the thing.

Wow, after reading the narrative below, even he was amazed at how hard he was swinging. Very interesting.
