Lisa M- I'm already set up for a ride. Thanks so much for the offer and I'm sure I'll see you down there! Daricouv- I know it gets pretty hot down there late February/early March, but I know people that will still climb through April. Good Luck. Safe travels everyone. BSNP

I'm booking a trip to potrero for the end of march. very excited. I've been putting off this trip for what seems like forever. Every year there was another reason not to go (partners back out, money, nrg/rrg trip, murders) but it seems like the stars might be aligning finally!

Hi again all, I finally have my mind made up and dates set. Im driving from CO and should arrive in EPC on Feb 7th and will be looking for people to climb with. Looks like several MPers are already down there, hopefully everyone is having a great time! coryhall, like you, when Im done in EPC (dont know when that will be) Im continuing my drive south with the eventual goal of making it to Patagonia. If were both heading south looking for things to climb and people to climb with I have a feeling we might make good friends! PM me if youre looking for partners as you go.

Went down over Christmas and was there during "the incident". Happened right behind the house I was staying at. Not to say that there is no danger, but it feels nothing but safe in town and in the Potrero. I had a blast! Here is the dog I got in the Potrero in January!

I assume you are talking about last year? Or did something else happen this year? Regarding temps in March- I have been there twice in March and found it quite pleasant. Climbing in t shirt and shorts. You may occasionally need to seek out shade but no biggy.

I went for the whole month of January then returned back this Christmas for 2 weeks so basically went to Potrero twice this year.

I'll be down there Feb 28-Mar 12. If anyone wants to share a room at Posada or talk about partnering up, just shoot me a PM.

So I'm flying into potrero in a few weeks (actually a full month, but with so much awful NYC weather I'm tricking myself into thinking it's sooner) and have a few questions: -favorite 5.11 pitch at potrero? -what food should we bring from the states that we won't be able to get in mexico (read peanut butter somewhere) -Probably climbing in a group of 3 at least a day or two, what are some ideal shorter routes at potrero for groups of 3. -insert another stupid ignorant american questions -does everyone really leave their packs at the top of the first pitches instead of on the ground?

daricouv wrote:What's it like in early April for climbing at El Potrero? We're thinking of heading down there over spring break. It seems like most people are there over the winter. It is rarely, even in the middle of Summer, too hot to climb in the Potrero. Temps here do not get extreme and the way our walls are oriented there is always something good to climb in the shade.

Two Pumped Chump--2 pitches of 5.11a The second pitch of Stroking the Bishop 5.11c. Bring your own power bars. You can get peanut butter here. There are several ways you can climb 3 people as fast and efficiently as two. No. Only if you are doing a long route that starts right off the road.

Ed nailed it, but if you run out I would add Don Quixote, XL Puffsneaker, Twist of fate, and Eternal Fatalist to the list of 11s.

I used kayak trip alerts last year and couldn't find a price that worked, but this year I used flights.google.com and found a flight for a lot less. other flight tips: -fly on a wednesday -buy tickets on a tuesday -buy about 7 weeks in advance. All three of those things will save you a good bit of money.

Vivaaerobus has cheap flights from San Antonio and Austin. Some folks fly to San Antonio or Laredo and come in by bus.

While we prepare for more snow in New York, the anticipation for a relief from this garbage winter is pretty high. How has the weather been down south?

I am looking to trip somewhere through June, any one have weather experience down there during this month? The heat doesn't bother me too much since I am an NC boy and work construction but just curious how intense it may be.

Contrary to popular belief, summer temps in the Potrero are not extreme. It's dry and usually in the low 90's and the way the walls are oriented there is always shade. If you come in the summer, however, you'd better bring a partner 'cuz there will be no one around to climb with.

I like the sound of that. They told me that when I worked a summer in central washington. I would be hot they said. I was cold on a shady day with wind. I got to have that humidity if its going to get me overheated.
