I am moving To Maui for one year! My first day is march 1st. I am looking for some climbing in the area. I would really love to find some people going out that weekend. Can anyone direct me in the right direction, or is there a group in Maui I can go climbing with and make climbing partner friends ? ?

I lived on Oahu for a couple years and there wasn't much. Not sure about Maui, but I think there's even less than Oahu. Try this group?...

Lived in Maui during the late 80's. Didn't climb back then so wasn't looking but from what I remember.....you picked the wrong island....bruddah.

Went back about 5 years ago and met a girl that said her boyfriend was a climber and he was going out of his mind because there wasn't much.

You will have surfing, golf, weed, etc..

There isn't much but there is a little and there is potential for development.
I was a dedicated climber for many years and still do routes when I get back to Colorado. Give me a shout when you settle in and I will tell you what I know. I f you go back through this forum you will find most of what there is posted already.
We are in the middle of one of the most epic surf seasons in recent history.
It's kinda like being a surfer and living in Colorado. If you really want to be into it, ya gotta travel.
I checked out the link posted above and know some of the people involved. So perhaps that will be a good place to start.Aloha,Olaf

There isint much on Maui. Oahu has the most climbing of the islands. There is, however, some potential on Maui for new routes.

There are no worthy big cliffs that I know of but plenty of boulders. Perhaps bigger dry stuff on the southeast side. Lava tubes are a lot if fun as you can get horizontal roofs with crazy friction of the lava rock. The west side of the island tends to be more decomposing. Also if your interested in canyoneering type fun there is a lot to explore. Start up in the crater and work your way down.

Went on a climbing rampage across the islands a few years back. Spent 15 days on Maui climbing and surfing non stop around the entire island. First off the few recourses found on MP for Maui specifically are pretty weak. You will have to be pretty adventurous in searching out new lines at some of the areas I'm about to mention.
First off the Black Rock of Kaanapali is not bad for some very touristy mini deep water solos. What is well worth the experience, is the Black Rock back side. This 70' tall volcanic tuff see cliff is about two football field long, all overhanging, above beautiful deep shark infested water. Features awesome cavern to climb out of mid way. The entire traverse of this wall is mind blowing and checks in at about V2+.
Same side of the island there is a ginormous multi pitch formation on radical overhanging Tuff above the town of Lahaina located on west Maui forest reserve. Can be seen from town looking east pretty easy.
Also on the west side is a trail known as the Lahaina Pali trail from the ukumehami west. This arid landscape offers killer bouldering right off the highway very similar to the happys in Bishop but believe it or not maybe more impressive landscape.
Moving on to the Road to Hana and the Southeast side.
What I thought to be the best climbing on the island and the most potential.
First I found virtually every roadside waterfall to have some sort of ridiculous deep water solos with the most amazing ambiance.
The sacred black sand beach of Wainapanapa and coastline just to the south offers some super radical bouldering in a setting straight out of never never land.
Further south you will find the O'heo Gulch or Seven Sacred Pools.
If you hike the two mile nature hike up the Gulch its more like 50 sacred pools of deep water solo mayhem !!!
Hope this helps, The Islands are a very beautiful and special place if you want more beta feel free to PM me.

Thanks for the great beta !!! I will be adventuring, hiking and more. So I am bound to find those spots. Looks like I'll be bringing my shoes after all! It does sound like I can leave my rope and carabiners at home, but I'm fine with that. I am happy with any climbing I can get into, and the other days will be filled with surfing and exploring... Oh ya and work. The entire reason I'm being sent there.

Don't know much about the climbing,,but lucky you! (except for the expensive cost of living and gas). Wonderful scenery, nice nude beaches to enjoy, fantastic surfing, hard bodies everywhere, I'd maybe give up climbing if I moved out there if the selection is not that great.
