Accident on Manic Crack in NM

Lawyer? I doubt it. Climbing is dangerous.

Without photos, I will still dare to speculate a bit.

Apparently, at least one of the cams sheared. This is different from umbrella. If you are above a cam or nut or whatever, and you "take", the rope will go taught and will pull out on most of you pieces, especially the top piece. Now, the top cam has tension in it and is pointing outward (perpendicular to the rope). Now you fall onto it. If there is enough tension in the cam, it will remain perpendicular to the load. This is when the lobes can get twisted. All cam manufacturers warn against this in their instruction manual.

Just speculation of course.

Small cams can and do fail! I broke a brand new cam the first time it was ever placed just by weighting it.

I do have photos now but I am waiting to discuss things with Black Diamond before I post them in case they need to do a recall etc. If they are okay with me posting them, I will be doing so very soon.

what in the FUCK. Another post without pictures? It's your property. It became your property when you purchased it. Please don't offer up another bullshit post of "well, the next one will have pictures if or when..." That's like the third or fourth post now saying that the pics are coming. Now you're posting saying you have them, but won't post them?

Just post the shit. Damn.

The last thing Black Diamond wants, is those photos to be seen. You've handed control right over to them.

Honestly, if you have major injuries and sincerely believe it was a product defect, get a lawyer and stop playing right into the company's hands. They have way too much on the line, and are going to have powerful leverage against little ol' you.

LOL. Yes, because posting photos is somehow much more physically demanding than logging in and posting a forum comment.

It looks as if you may be afflicted with a slight case of you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Let me get this straight, you publicly accused them of selling you a defective product but won't produce photos unless they approve?

That boat has sailed long ago. The only way to turn this around is by starting to do things that make sense, and you are floating in the wrong direction. At the very least, stop commenting until you have something substantive to offer to support your claims.

Kerr, I wish you a complete and quick recovery.

IMHO, after making some pretty extreme claims regarding the failure of the cams, waiting to post the pictures until you "discuss things with Black Diamond" makes absolutely zero sense. ZERO. You can do whatever you want, but your reluctance to post photos is just... odd.

Again, I am happy that you are still here. I wish you all the best in your recovery.

STFU nOOb!

FACTS: Your photos are meaningless and irrelevant, BD doesn't give a shit, and you don't know anything about rock climbing.

Take a deep breath. At least give the guy with the broken back the benefit of the doubt that he really thinks he sheared cams in bomber placements.

If he's making excuses for himeself in a public forum, well, Karma's a bitch.

Just for the record, I agree that the cams did not fail.

Kerr, since you are waiting to post pics, please answer these questions for now.

Did the cams break into two or more pieces or are they still in one piece?

Are the lobes twisted?

Did the cams umbrella?

Thx. It will keep us busy for a little while.

Please don't hurt the publicly traded company who switched their production to Asia to make investors more money at the expense of your safety, that would be criminal.

You should definitely ask them for permission first.

Which they would never give, cause it would be admission of guilt.

Now that I think of it, this would be a great way to cover your retard shit with another persons retarded shit, well played!

Yep, more cam failures, just like when I was 12 and decked from 20 feet, I swear that original cam was placed well.

Dear lord Pokey's comments are absolutely hilarious! And true!

And it just gets better: When Kerr apologizes for the alarmist nature of his original post I thought we were back on track, but then he continues to cry wolf claiming to have photos - but not to want to post them (let alone any real explanation of what happened to the cams) - in the name of professionalism!

And the whole thread is peppered with random interjections from Shoo who will surely explain the miracles and limitations of mechanical engineering to us all, this coming on the heels of his Rasputinian predictions about what model cams they were (and he was right!) and the unpopularity of 0.4 C4's (sorry, wrong there)!

This has all the markings of a classic! Kerr, better delete all your comments ASAP (blame it on the pain and drugs) and focus on healing. Don't want to piss off BD until they send you a couple hundred bucks of free swag!

Scroll up and read the post from dude. It's about a metolius response to a broken cam. Nice read and way better than this dull thread. Speaking of which, I'm sitting on a birthday cake - anybody wanna put $5 on what happens when i lift a leg an pull the trigger?

I can't wait any longer. I'm giving away my X4's before I kill myself.
