We are coming in from out of town and are looking for someone to point us to some choice sport routes. We have our own gear and climb up here in NY but don't know the area or anyone who climbs. We would love to tag along to have someone say 'hey try that climb' or help id routes from the guidebook. We will be in the Phoenix area and were hoping to climb Sunday the 23rd. Shoot us a text...58five-26one-zero232 Thanks!

I just went to Queens Creek, 1hr east of PHX and it was amazing. Get in Totem Pole a great route with awesome rock quality.

Thanks for the insight! We were thinking about climbing at Queens Creek. Good to have a jumping off point!

Hi and welcome. Arizona has some amazing climbing. Just to clarify...it is Queen Creek not Queens :). The Totem Pole is a great route...though maybe not sport by most people's definition. If you plan to go out to Lower Devil's Canyon, be advised that high clearance 4wd is best. Without that, plan on hiking about a mile or 2 to get to the routes. Also, not to discourage you, but the rock in QC is volcanic an can be intimidating/scary if you venture beyond the more highly traveled routes. Have fun and feel free to PM me if you'd like more info.

There are other areas in QC that are more popular for sport climbing and have less intensive approaches, for example: the Pond (right above the highway, Atlantis (right below the highway), and the Mine area (right off magma mine road). If you are based in PHX and just have 1 day, QC is a good option.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
