Hey there climbing community!! Haven't been on here in awhile do to extreme job requirements and my unfortunate move to the land of Theme Parks and retirees!! :-( Anyway, I am in DESPERATE need of a climbing vacation! Problem is, I need it to be economically feasible.. a common condition I am sure. Where do I want to go? Potrero! Where ya'll com in? -- Please, HELP me find the cheapest way to get there? I'm not to savvy when it comes to Internet flight searches and what not. Any suggestions on how I can find 'cheap' tickets? THANKS!
Pretty straightforward. I've used google flights and travelocity. These things are so competative these days that the prices are pretty much the same on all sites within a few percent.
fly to san antonio (350$), Americanos bus down to Monterrey (40$), taxi from the bus station to the campground (25-30$). Was cheaper than the 650$ flight into monterrey when I did it a few years ago, might have changed since then. If you take an early morning flight, you'l get into the campground around 10-11pm.

Fly to San Antonio and rent a car. Drive that into Mexico. There may be difficulty getting them to let you drive the rental car into Mexico, but I have been with a group that rented a car in New Mexico and drove it into Mexico, so you can probably find a way to do it. But do note, you have to make a deposit of a couple of hundred dollars for driving the car into mexico, but they refund it when you leave Mexcio, assuming you make sure to stop and fill out all the paper work.
The drive isn't too bad (I did it from San Antonio with my own car) and it was about 4-5 hours if I remember right. There are cheap hotels that you can stay at in Portrero that cater to climbers, or, if you really want to do it on the cheap, you could probably just camp up in the canyon, however, there are large packs of stray dogs that roamed the area at night while I was there, so beware.

Of the few rental companies that allow you to take their cars into Mexico, most of them require you purchase the full-coverage waver, which is insanely expensive. Even if they did not require you purchase it, you want insurance on your rental when you are in Mexico. Mexico is not Texas if you know what I mean.
