I'm booking a trip to potrero for the end of march. very excited. I've been putting off this trip for what seems like forever. Every year there was another reason not to go (partners back out, money, nrg/rrg trip, murders) but it seems like the stars might be aligning finally! |
Hi again all, I finally have my mind made up and dates set. Im driving from CO and should arrive in EPC on Feb 7th and will be looking for people to climb with. Looks like several MPers are already down there, hopefully everyone is having a great time! |
Went down over Christmas and was there during "the incident". Happened right behind the house I was staying at. Not to say that there is no danger, but it feels nothing but safe in town and in the Potrero. I had a blast! Here is the dog I got in the Potrero in January! |
I assume you are talking about last year? Or did something else happen this year? |
I went for the whole month of January then returned back this Christmas for 2 weeks so basically went to Potrero twice this year. |
I'll be down there Feb 28-Mar 12. If anyone wants to share a room at Posada or talk about partnering up, just shoot me a PM. |
So I'm flying into potrero in a few weeks (actually a full month, but with so much awful NYC weather I'm tricking myself into thinking it's sooner) and have a few questions: |

daricouv wrote:What's it like in early April for climbing at El Potrero? We're thinking of heading down there over spring break. It seems like most people are there over the winter. It is rarely, even in the middle of Summer, too hot to climb in the Potrero. Temps here do not get extreme and the way our walls are oriented there is always something good to climb in the shade. |

Bring your own power bars. You can get peanut butter here. There are several ways you can climb 3 people as fast and efficiently as two. No. Only if you are doing a long route that starts right off the road. |

Ed nailed it, but if you run out I would add Don Quixote, XL Puffsneaker, Twist of fate, and Eternal Fatalist to the list of 11s. |

Anyone know how to fly there on the cheap? |

SendaGorilla wrote:Anyone know how to fly there on the cheap?with wings.... I used kayak trip alerts last year and couldn't find a price that worked, but this year I used flights.google.com and found a flight for a lot less. other flight tips: -fly on a wednesday -buy tickets on a tuesday -buy about 7 weeks in advance. All three of those things will save you a good bit of money. |

Vivaaerobus has cheap flights from San Antonio and Austin. |

While we prepare for more snow in New York, the anticipation for a relief from this garbage winter is pretty high. How has the weather been down south? |
Rob come to the New (or maybe Obed) this weekend. |
I am looking to trip somewhere through June, any one have weather experience down there during this month? The heat doesn't bother me too much since I am an NC boy and work construction but just curious how intense it may be. |
Contrary to popular belief, summer temps in the Potrero are not extreme. It's dry and usually in the low 90's and the way the walls are oriented there is always shade. |

I like the sound of that. They told me that when I worked a summer in central washington. I would be hot they said. I was cold on a shady day with wind. I got to have that humidity if its going to get me overheated. |
