Good Lodging for Group - Moab

A few friends and I are heading to Moab for some climbing and canyoneering in early May. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on places to stay. I was thinking something like a couple of cabins or a townhouse. It'll be 8 to 10 guys and we were trying to avoid hotels if we could. It would just be for 2 nights. Any thoughts would be a big help - thanks!

Are you opposed to camping? That would be your best option, you could camp wherever you are planning on climbing

If not the Lazy Lizard, KOA, Slickrock RV Park, and pretty much all of the in-town camping places have little cabins that I would imagine could accommodate 4 people for under $50 a night.

Camping would be great if everyone wasn't coming from all over the country. I was trying to avoid having everyone dragging tents and bags through the airports. That being said, how is the Lazy Lizard Hostel? I was curious if the group houses were ok. I think some of the group might not want to deal with a pure hostel environment. Worth looking into?

The cabins are separate from the dorm/hostel building, but I personally do not like the Lazy Lizard. I have only stayed in the dorm with like 7 other people in there so I'm sure the cabins would be a better experience. Worth calling and asking about IMO

Rarely do you need a tent or more than a 45 degree bag to camp in Moab I slept on 2 crash pads with an unzipped 30 degree from April-October only pitching a tent maybe 5 times.

The owner of the Lazy Lizard has a second property away from the main hostel called the Watermelon House that your whole party can rent for a reasonable rate. However, May is pretty busy and it's probably booked.

The Lazy Lizard hostel is fantastic! There are always a number of interesting people passing through and the staff is friendly and helpful. There are a number of accommodation options here...everything from camping to single rooms to dorm rooms to cabins to larger houses (such as the Watermelon house mentioned in a previous response). Just keep in mind that prices are per person...even if sharing a room. I've been here on and off for about three months now and couldn't be happier. The price is extremely reasonable too! I would highly recommend checking with the front desk guys (Harry, Brett, Nate, Dale) to see what is available at the time you plan to be here. They have been doing a lot of booking for during season already. And I've noticed that the number of people passing through has already picked up, even though the season hasn't quite gotten into full swing. Best of luck!

another vote for the lazy lizard. it's not a high end hostel like you find in boulder or breck, it looks like it has been pieced together over the years(and it has). it has something of a gritty, yet down home feel, but it's probably the cheapest option that has heat and a real bed. plus you will definitely meet some interesting people. I spent two months there and had a great time. the dorm rooms are the best place to meet people as well as the cheapest.
