Heading to HI for a vacay, in need of advice on Mokuleia Wall or other areas near the North Shore that are worth some time. Please help me out!

I'd like to know too, I'll be there in April...

Unfortunately, all the climbing on Oahu State Lands (especially Mokuleia) is closed due to Department of Land and Natural Resources policy to avoid lawsuits. Local climbers, with the help of the Access Fund, are trying to get access restored. But until then, there's really only some bouldering open.

If you'd like to read the gory details of lost access:

Sarah,

There is Makapuu Point on the North Shore as well. Have climbed there before-- small crag with some fairly short sport routes that run 5.6 to 5.11 (you can also set up TR easily on everything there). We pretty much climbed every possible combo at the crag that day. Absolutely gorgeous setting! Never experienced anything quite like it climbing. Routes aren't nearly as memorable, but there was one good 10c route with some overhangs and another balancy 5.9 on an arête that I though was pretty good. Not sure whether that area would be affected by this closure out there. I am not an Hawaii native, but maybe someone from there knows...There is a page on Mountain Project... a bit incomplete, but it will give you an idea.

Makapuu is also closed, although I heard that some people have been climbing there lately. Climbing on all DNLR lands is closed at the current time. Maybe give Mike at Climb Aloha a call, and he can stear you to some bouldering. There may or may not be some fairly clandestine crags btw.

Definitely hit up Mike at Climb Aloha. He's a great source of information. You can also check out the Climb Aloha Facebook page to link up with local climbers.

The bouldering at Waimea Bay is pretty fun with no need for a crash pad. Other than that, go surfing, snorkeling, paddling, hiking, sit on the beach etc. Oh yeah, and go surfing. You're in Hawaii, not Yosemite.

Wahini',,,just go with the local flow and do some nice curls off the North Shore instead.....waves of fun,,,nice sands and surf,, forget the climbing as it sounds like access can be a problem..
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
