Anyone boulder in the area? Maybe recommend a gym close by, or looking for a partner?

i do... but Groton is not the SW part of the state. Believe it or not you are actually on a website that has tons of bouldering information on it. Try surfing the Destination area of the website. As for gyms there are several, a quick google search will get you them. Cheers!

I used to boulder in Middletown quite a bit at 7 falls. It was kind of chossy, but there were ample boulder to hike around and get those fingers fit. PLENTY to do here.

There is a gym in Mystic, or at least there used to be. I'm sure it's still there. Also, check around Lantern Hill, up 395 near the Casinos. I haven't been there in YEARS, but i think it was a decent area to climb.

Ah... the good old NEB days... I remember when bouldering was new and that site along with climbing V10 was the hot shit!

Is that horrible "gym" still in existence?

What gym do you recommend in southeast Connecticut? I'm in groton and training is getting a little old. Losing my psych! Coming from California to here is a huge change.

Prime climb in Wallingford is great, sort of a haul for you though. Just check out the gym in Mystic, I'm sure it has what you're looking for. Anything is better than what you are currently climbing on, right. I went years ago 2 times, and it was ok i thought. Like i said, if you're not climbing ANYTHING, at least this is something. If it sucks, well then, you just make do until spring.

Centralrock in Worcester Mass is a little bit of a haul, but is pretty good. There is also a small new gym in Peacedale RI that could be fine for bouldering. I went there a few times when it first opened and found the boulder route setting geared to huge big reachy power moves, so most of the routes were silly easy or silly hard with not much in between, but it may have improved with setter experience. Unfortunately, Groton is a bit of a backwater as far as climbing gyms go, but if you are willing to drive a little you have some options. I live in southern RI, but I drive to Worcester (CentralRock), Boston (Metrorock) or even Concord NH (Evolution) when I want to hit the gym.

There is also a Central Rock Gym in Glastonbury, CT but once again it's still not that close to groton. It's probably the same distance away as the Rock Spot in Peacedale. I've never been to the central rock gym but I heard it was decent.

The rock spot is the closest gym to me. What do you Guys think of that gym? I don't have my crashpads to boulder in mystic just yet but will be able to in a couple weeks. Thanks for the replies all! Let me know if you guys want to get together to climb!

The peacedale rock spot is a decent gym in my opinion. It's definitely not the largest gym out there so it doesn't take long to run out of routes to try. My biggest complaint is that there are a ton of auto belays. I find the bouldering to be pretty fun though. The route setting isn't out of this world or anything but it's not terrible either. Just go check it out and see what you think!

Once again thanks for the replies all! It sounds like it's either gonna be rockspot peacedale or central rock gym. They're both around the same distance but one of the perks of rock spot is that it's open really late. I'm a the naval submarine school and we have plenty of boulders on base but I am not allowed to climb here. If anyone is down to boulder outdoors in the mystic area I am available after 4pm weekdays and free weekends!

Joe,

There is quite a bit of bouldering near you in Groton. Chatfield Hollow is also not too far away. There is also climbing in New London. Seek and you shall find.

Check these spots:

Thank you! The weather hasn't been cooperating so I'm looking for a gym at the moment. I'm also new to the area so finding climbers who are down for this area has been a tad challenging. Once again, thank you for your contribution!
