I tell you what, I've climbed with and seen a few taller people climb, and it's ugly to watch. They are not gracefull at all! They JUST REACH AND FLAIL! It can't even be fun for them! I think taller people can generally reach and flail their way up routes up to 5.11 if they are in reasonable shape but it is ugly to watch.

Perhaps not. Kid's been on-site for a couple weeks and uses a lot of exclamation points in posts/rants. Perhaps Ellenor has a new moniker?

I'm 6'6" 250lbs. Reaching and flailing is a lot of fun for me, and my belayer gets a free ride to the top when I whip. See its good fun for all.

I'm 6'3" (not uber tall), but I make it a point to climb fluidly.

Another short person with a complex. Sorry bout your luck or I guess lack of in the height department. I'll make sure and overlook this little blasphemy you've posted and chalk it up to that tall hot girl turning you down.

I've watched "tall" climbers completely skip tough holds and reach for nice jugs to get through climbs. Wether someone is tall or not probably has nothing to do with them flopping around. It's an ignorant statement. If anyone is at a disadvantage in climbing its overweight people, and even then I've seen a "chubby" kid kill an overhanging 5.12. Experience, training, and technique can trump any body type. Why would you even think to start a post about this anyways? Feel like an idiot wasting my time responding to this post but it's like a car accident, couldn't look away...

Ugh, the trolling on this site is un-fucking-bearable. Go back to Your hole. Joined January 4th? Yeah I bet...

What about John Gill, Chris Hirsch, Mikel Cronin, Will Gore, myself and many others who are over 6' 2" and are quite fluid climbers? Some people say the same about tall skiers. Very closed minded statement.

Well
Jim Holloway at 6' 4" pretty much looked liked water flowing uphill. Maybe one of the most fluid climbers ever.

It's clear Tex Rynold aka RBG is into trolling based on the few threads the user has started since joining this site less than a month ago. I ignore the trolling typically but as a 6'5" climber, I've thought about this topic a bit over the years. There really is a small number of professional climbers that are over 6'2" (an arbitrary height I consider to qualify as "tall").
Being tall I find I have an advantage on harder slab routes where I can reach past many cruxes but man-oh-man do I have difficulties on big roofs where one must get feet high on the lip to pull the roof.
But as grog m pointed out here, us tall climbers are useful for stick clipping, brushing holds and spotting in bouldering. So the next time you're at a crag, give a tall climber a beer at the end of the day and show us your TCA (tall climber appreciation.)

I thought about this ever since I started skating back in 1985. Tony Hawk was just a shit show to watch, but he overcompensated with his mind blowing bag of tricks. Compared to the shorter guys like Christian Hosoi and Steve Caballero their height definitely made their skating much more graceful to watch. I'm a tall climber at 6'2" and I can't stand watching myself on video because as a generalized statement most tall guys suck to watch. But as far as I'm concerned I don't give two shits how anyone else gets to the top I only care how I get to the top. So if I get to skip a bunch of pissy little crimps and go jug to jug then I'm ok with that. Short bastards just love to try and cut us down because we get to reach past the crux on occasion. Learn to dyno if it bothers you so much, but for the love of God stop trying to make excuses why you can't climb well.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
