Where can I get the Vibram Mulaz for resoling?

Hi all,

I have contacted all the cobblers that do resoling for mountaineering boots, but none have the Vibram Mulaz in stock.

Any idea where I can get couple pair of the Mulaz sole to send to the cobblers? Couple pair of my boots are less than 2 year old, so I hate to replace them since they are all in great shape besides the soles

I don't know if Dave has them but I'd call him if you didn't already.

Thanks Ray, I already talked with Dave last night, they don't and can't find any Mulaz instock. I have also contacted the boot manufacturer, Salewa in this case, and they don't sell the Vibram outsole for replacement.

It's a shame that in this age when we all talk about green and reducing waste, and all we can do is to throw out a pair of decent boots and have to get the new ones.

We already can 3D- print organ from stem cell for transplantation, why can't we have access to the needed technical rubber sole from Vibram for resole? It's frustrating and incomprehensible

For what it's worth I just called my girlfriends brother who works as a manager at the vibram factory in north Brookfield ma. He said they only make work boot and service boot soles in the u.s. All climbing, hiking, walking and specialty rubber is all done in there Asian factories. The machinery they use in us plants just isn't technically advanced enough to do those designs.

Thanks Jake! That's really helpful to know

Dave Page, Cobbler has them. Though he is old school, he doesn't go there anymore.

Dave told me that he is the ONLY person in North America that Vibram distributes to…(?)

He has the Mulaz (as of October 2016). He will not allow anyone to purchase soles from him. He won't even commit to reserving the Mulaz for your resole— you have to take your chances (what a little Nazi-cobbler he turned into~ heehee!!). You may only indicate it (Mulaz, etc.) as your first choice.

Evidently, he does not allow anyone to reserve the sole of their choice by pre-paying either. As for my part, I will stay away from that "new breed" of resoler and continue to buy technical alpine boots at my risk, knowing that I probably will never get them resoled to my satisfaction— which means to MY specifications.

I had not dared to have any of my "modern era" alpine boots resoled by anyone, but I finally gave in and sent my 2013 Scarpa Rebels (with the rock-shoe toe profile) that are no longer available with the carbon fiber midsole— not even in Europe. I sent them to the lady in Salida, CO. They botched that job by specifying Vibram "Sierras" that weren't, by gluing the soles on crooked and finally by trimming the toe BEHIND the rand.

That one ought to stick to cowboy boots.

And speaking of cowboys… I'm afraid the real "cowboy" resolers of the past era have all lost their chutzpa— no "hot-rodding" ice-boots like in the olden days (when Norwegian welt construction was the standard… boohoo.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
