Best Warm, Multipitch climbs for Mid February?

Hey there-

This question has probably been asked a million times, so pardon my repetition. Muy partner and I are thinking of coming to RR over Presidents Day weekend, and wondering what the best multipitch routes are for that time of year.

We are interested in routes on the harder side, around 5.11

Suggestions?

THANKS!

Would Epinephrine in Feb be just cold, or stupidly unclimbably cold?

Depends on temperatures. Most likely zero sun on the route, which means if temps in Vegas are above 65/70 you might be in luck. Below that may qualify as "stupid cold."

I climbed it in June and barely saw the sun, but that was more intentional and timing-based. Bigger concern would be daylight relative to the length of the route. You are Canadian, so you probably have a better tolerance to the cold than those of us living in the Desert, so ya got that goin' for ya...

Danny, the first time I ever climbed Epinephrine was on Feb 5 and I thought it fine. As long as you are a competent team and can move at a reasonable speed, which daylight dictates anyway, you should not get cold at current temps.

Scott, most of my favorite 5.11's are actually north facing. The north facing walls are steeper at RR in general. But here are a few of my select longer trad climbs at that grade range for this time of year...north to south in the park. These are all sunny and moderate in length...several can be combined for a full day as they are close to each other. I would not hesitate in doing the Warrior, Resolution Arete, etc this time of year...routes with at least partial eastern exposure and go fast. Good luck on your trip.

Orange Clonus, 5.10d, 7 Pitches
Brass Balls, 5.10d, 5 Pitches
Spectrum, 5.11a, 7 Pitches
Times Up, 5.11d, 6 Pitches
Ten Minute Shift, 5.11b, 5 Pitches
Ringtail, 5.10d, 5 Pitches
Mountain Beast, 5.11a, 8 Pitches
Eagle Dance, 5.10c A0, 9 Pitches
Western Swing, 5.10b, 8 Pitches

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
