Fixed Hardware Database

MP now has a fixed hardware database. All owners of a route can add/edit hardware, and certain "hardware admins" can manage hardware for entire areas. This has been around for a while but getting some updates.

This is a forum primarily for the Hardware Admins to discuss their needs, but it's open to the public.

Some examples:
Grandmother's Challenge has hardware, so on that route page, below the title, you'll find "Fixed Hardware" with a link to the details.

And you can go "up the chain" and find all hardware on all routes for a given area:

Great feature, will be incredibly valuable.

After messing with it for a few minutes (To Talca and Back) I have a little feedback for you.

- Would it be possible to add a timestamp showing when the last update was made to a particular route's hardware? It wouldn't need to be on the main route page but it would be useful to know how dated the information is, particularly the "condition" category.

- Along the same lines, it might be nice for all registered users to be able to "confirm" the hardware condition for a route, or, if they disagree, "flag" it for review and add a comment. Combined with timestamps, this could be a valuable tool for the hardware admins and users alike. Seems like an intermediate step between allowing all users to edit (probably a poor choice) and leaving it up to the admins (with thousands and thousands of routes, that could be daunting).

- Lastly, why the distinction between anchor/belay/rappel hardware? Seems to me that a distinction between lead and anchor would be sufficient.

Thanks for the hard work, and just to clarify I think its incredibly valuable as it is right now, but I figured a fresh set of eyes to give some feedback might be useful.

Nick, great work! ACE and Eldorado Canyon State Park staff paired with Nick to spec out some of the initial UI design and provide an early cut of data for Eldorado Canyon State Park from "Eldorado Canyon: A Climbing Guide" by Steve Levin (i.e., with Steve's permission).

This is an extremely valuable feature especially from a LCO (i.e., local climbing organization) perspective. ACE can much more easily track, identify, maintain, prioritize and replace hardware regularly with the help of this database tool.

Feature Requests

• First, a private admin only maintenance field to prioritize FH work by LCO's. Maintenance values could be: low, medium or high. Reports could be sorted on this value for LCOs.
• Ability to track historical hardware that has been removed. For example, a pin is pulled or an anchor is replaced with a new one. Having a record of historical FH makes doing research much easier. And now and then having good historical notes can inform a current hardware decision. Removed hardware could be placed into a separate table in the display. A data model column of 'removed' type boolean should do the trick and some UI work to accompany.
• Time stamp to date FH entries.
• Color the FH entry rows in the table by condition (i.e., Poor, Good, etc). If no condition given then leave uncolored. Use traffic stop light colors. I know this could be "touchy" from a legal angle, but this helps folks know if they are clipping dangerous gear by making it red.

Just now joining this thread that Nick linked me too.

At first glance it seems that you can only enter a single bolt or anchor at a time. Is there any way to say add an entire route? May have a separate add form that says what was replaced with checkboxes next to rap ring, bolt, shuts, anchor, etc and then have a textbox for quantity next to each? I feel like that would automate a lot of text entries.

Also is there any way that the public can add routes that need some work on them to a central list for the area?

Any ideas about my last people?
