Any of you guys have experience with AIARE certification in the north east? I'm on the market for a course and was wondering if I could get any feedback from the MP community on your experiences with different providers and some direction regarding who to go to.

I'm looking to get AIARE 1 certification, live in Boston (I have a car). I'm looking for something geared more towards climbers than skiers. I've seen some courses use skis for backcountry travel. I'm a competent skier at resorts, but don't own a pair of skis so this might be a bit inconvenient for me. In fact, I don't have any of the avalanche gear either except for a shovel. I think I can rent this from anybody offering a course though?

Lastly, I only have 1/3-1/15 free for something like this.

Also, if anybody lives in Boston and has similar interest/availability, let me know. I'd happily carpool and split gas costs.

Look up Chauvin guides, Synnott guides and EMS' schedules, I'm sure Marc or Mark would have no problem tailoring a course to climbers, they've both done a route or two. As a side note, there's no "certification" in AIARE courses until level 3. You've just taken a course.

Look up IME or EMS in North Conway. Took level 1 last year with Dave Lottman, who was great. 3 day course, 2 classroom / field days then 1 full field day in Tucks. Dave is a climber, so can talk in your terms. I'm sure the other guides are good as well. We saw a few other outfits while in Tucks - our group had the best client to instructor ratio by far.

AMC also runs programs but instructors might not be as good

We have a couple spots open on our Jan 3,4,5 course, and 7,8,9.

Hope you find a course that works for your dates. I'll have a write up on the course we concluded yesterday on my blog later today: davidlottmann.wordpress.com.

I've done trips with Marc Chauvin and highly reccomend him. He's an IMFGA certified guide and an amazing climber. Check his page out here chauvinguides.com/
