Anybody have experiance with severing a finger and having it reattached? I lost my index finger and now it is stuck in the perfect position for the ladies but not much movement for climbing. Anyone had this happen and continued to climb after? I know about Caldwell but am asking for mortals with experiance. A little background on myself is I have climbed 5.13 sport v10 boulder and 5.12 trad and would like to get back to that. Anyone been at that level and lost a digit and got back there. Would love some hope here seeing as I have been told I will be lucky to get forty percent back in the digit

I did a basic search of "caldwell finger" on MP (results here) and came up with a few posts/forums that might be of help. I've only met the man once in my life and he was one of the most helpful and definitely the most humble climber I've encountered considering his monumental accomplishments. I would be surprised if he wasn't willing/able to offer you a little personal advice if you contacted him directly.

If that doesn't appeal to you, do a more a concentrated MP/Taco/Google search and I'll bet you'll find some good suggestions. You're certainly not the first person to go through this and people like TC have gone above and beyond what they were previously capable of.

Good luck and persevere.

My finger tip was smashed off and it doesn't really bother me except for when it dries out.

That's what happened to me edge except mine was second joint on the index that I trashed. They were going to fuse mine but I figured the same as you. Why the hell would anyone want to have a finger that doesn't bend? I asked them to cut it off and was told that no one would be losing a digit that night. Wish I had pushed harder for it, but at the time I was pretty drugged up for the pain.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
