i'm planning to spend a few days exploring Cochises in early Jan and don't want to camp. Can anyone recommend a decent but not pricy hotel nearby? Is Pearce the go-to town for the rock climbing? Any recommended routes? up to 5.11+ if not too spicy
If you want to climb on the east side, Pearce is not too far away and there is a motel there. There are also two properties rented by the FS called the Shaw House and Half Moon Ranch. Cochise Stronghold B&B has a couple of different options as well.

I have stayed at 2 of the Forest Service cabins on the east side. They are really nice and will accommodate 4-8 people with stocked kitchens (no food), beds, wood stoves and fire wood. You can walk right from them to climbing areas. Check the USFS Recreation page for availability and ways to reserve them.
The west side is another story. If you stay in Tombstone at the closest lodging you would have to endure the long washboard on Middlemarch road twice a day.
