Hey folks----

this place is incredible. anyone know anything about it? if not, want to??? im down for meeting up and exploring.

cheers, katie o.

Sounds exciting. I am planning on being in that area of the world (Arusha and northern Tanzania)this summer. I googled pics of Kit Mikayi. It looks really awesome. You can actually see the boulder fields from the satellite.
Here is something similar that I found. Sounds like it is in the same area but on the other side of the border.

Hi Katie,

I'm coming to kenya on boxing day and will be staying a minimum of two months, I'm really keen to develop some bouldering areas whilst I'm there. I've been looking at kit mikayi and it looks amazing, I'd definitely be keen to meet up some time in jan/feb. I'll have one, maybe two pads and more psyche than you can shake a stick at. Have you climbed much in the area?

Cheers

Joe

Posting photos from rural Kenya can be very difficult so here are a few. I agree with KOB, the rock is good!

When asked about climbing on the park's sacred rocks, the park staff said would be okay after both paying and then taking the historical tour. Fixed hardware looked necessary but was not discussed.

Also, thanks to a posting by Ian McHenry on Mountain Project, we found a splitter crack on the summit boulder of Sangalo Rocks , near the town of Bungoma.

Hey guys---

Ive now driven by Kit Makayi almost daily for the last 2 months (blew out my shoulder and couldnt climb til now!) but was working there...the area has an UNTHINKABLE amount of bouldering. wow. Ken, THANK YOU so much for the pics and all the info.

so....joe, damn, i am JUST now back in the states for a few months. rehab'ing the shoulder and then will go back in april. id love to hook up otherwise and explore. the whole region is ridiculous looking (in nothing but the best way!).

any of you plan on being there in april/may/june??? if not, keep the ideas coming.

ken, id love to hear more about what you found out.

cheers and happy holidays, kob

Hey all, how far is this area from Nairobi? I'll be in the area in Feb and onward with my rope and rack and would love to check out some of those cracks! Let's meet up and climb!

I'll be moving to Kisumu from Colorado Springs in late August. I already have a pad there and will hopefully be bringing a second. Anyone still in the area? I'd be really excited to find a group to start establishing some problems with!

Make sure you reach out to the Mountain Club of Kenya (MCK) - they have a few very active and keen boulderers and developers! And make sure you document the lines you put up!

Thank you. I used to know Ian Alan pretty well who has lots of history with MCK and wrote one of the Mt. Kenya guide books. I'll reach out to both once over there. It will be good to find out land jurisdictions etc. to ensure any development is handled properly.

Hi, I will be in Kisumu from tomorrow until beginning of Mars. Im up for some bouldering/sport climb. Don't have any gear with me (just a fingerboard).

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
