NC xmas beta

I'll be back in NC for a week over Christmas and am looking for some climbing suggestions that fit these criteria:

1) decent concentration of easy to moderates (5.7-5.11)
2) within 2-3 hours of W-S/Kernersville area
3)preferably trad, but will sport or boulder
4)sunny aspect
5) <45 min. approach

I won't have too much time and will be climbing with less experienced folks, so I am looking for convenience and ease for this outing. Last year we did Cereal Buttress at RB and have done Moore's Wall before- both were fantastic. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Not as much fun as RB, but Pilot is over that way and has easy top access to set up TR.

check the CCC page -- someone told me they opened three weekends at Saurtown which is a formerly closed cliff -- not sure if the dates match up with you

I'd go for Pilot, better sun than Moore's.

This link has all the info you could ask for. Easy approach and there are bolders there too.

Thanks for all the good suggestions, everyone!

Does anyone know where I can get some info on Sauratown? That's pretty close to where I'll be and lines up with when I'll be back that way

There should be a bunch of people there so ask fellow climbers. Maybe old Kelley guide has some route info. rockclimbing.com/routes/Nor… has some route info. Not sure if pm still has info on it.

Just note that it is only open those three weekends the ccc has bought and otherwise is closed. Going there uninvited will compromise the redeveloping access.

The CCC will have a limited amount of updated topos available at sourtown and there will be others around that you could get beta from. This is an amazing opportunity that I never imagined would have happened. If you get the chance...take it.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
