Hey, I'm going to be down in the Chat area December 16-20th.
I was wondering if anyone else was going to be in the Dayton Pocket area Monday or Tuesday. It looks like a small area, not sure how much traffic will be out there.
Information is relatively slim for the area, any locals going to be around?
I was also looking to hit up some smaller boulder fields around Chat as well such as the Apartment Boulders.

As of 2-3 weeks ago, Dayton pocket was closed for road work or something. It might have just been the weekend I tried to go, though. If it's still closed, you've got deep creek nearby. The bridge across the creek was smashed by a few trees that had fallen, but you can still scramble across the creek by going downstream a bit if the bridge hasn't yet been fixed. Castle rock, out near foster falls, is also a really good smaller crag.

Edit to add: Southeastern Climbers Coalition has a lot of good info on access. seclimbers.org. Also, your best chance of meeting up with people on the fly at a crag is probably Leda or foster--they are the two really popular sport crags in Chattanooga. You can also swing by the crash pad in downtown in the morning to see if anyone there is going out, if you don't find a partner on here.

Hey Jaime, thanks for the heads up. I hope the road will be fixed.
There is no info on Dayton Pocket on SEC. I've been to Deep Creek, Foster Falls, LRC, Pep Boys, Obed, Twall... ect.
I'm looking for some smaller area gems right now.

On the sec website look for buzzards point--that's basically the Dayton pocket area--laurel falls is opposite buzzards and is also very good. If you do a google map search for Dayton, TN, move up to the north west a little and you'll see the "v" cliff line for buzzards. On the opposite ridge to the north is the laurel falls cliff line. Also check out castle rock, it's a smaller crag, with lots of good climbs.
