Hueco Tanks With No Reservation

So, my friend and I have been planning on taking a trip to North Mountain Hueco tanks for the first time from the 14th to the 26th of December and did not realize that reservations were required for the busy months of climbing here.

I just wanted to know if anyone could give any insight on the possibilities of getting into north mountain as one of the ten walk-ins, or if there are any other options for climbing in the area...

Any help is appreciated, our spirits are low...

So they require a reservation all year in order to guarantee entry and you need to claim your reservation by 10 am. Most of the year it doesn't matter because its so hot the park is almost never full (they allow 70 people at a time in north mountain). Since the weather is perfect for climbing in the winter there its usually always booked. The only chance you have if that day is already booked which it probably is, is to wait till someone leaves and take there spot.

The chance of getting the 14th to the 26th is slim to none but you might be able to get in for a day or two who knows...

there is usually a waiting list when the park is full but if you camp inside the park you get first dibs. so camping in the park will increase your chances.

Went down there last January with no reservations and everything worked out fine. But bring some $$$ for camping and daily entrance to the park. If you have a group of ten forget it. But a group of two would be fine.

Wait at the gate all night and leave poop shrines in the desert like hundreds before you cuz there is no pooper, cuz ya now TSP is all about preservation of resources.

You can also get on a volunteer or paid tour.

Reservations for the prime season fill up usually on the day they become available, which is 90 days in advance.

For what its worth, if you can't get into Hueco there are bouldering opportunities at Pena Blanca in the Organ Mountains, which are not too far away...

Weekdays can be easier to get in most times. Weekends are busy. It is best to be there every morning at the gate really early if you really want to climb. If you dont get in your on the list. At 10am they give up any of the no show reservations. 2pm car check can be a good time to get in for a late sesh. Sign up for tours during the weekends. If you get on the waiting list, there is wi-fi. If you are #3 or 5 on the list o.k. good. #10...? you'll be waiting for a while. School break brings the crowds I think but who knows how many are going to show.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
