Split Tubing on Master Cams - Fix?

Posting here as this seems to be an aid-climbing specific problem from weighting the cams regularly.

Master Cams work great but seem to have some significant durability problems. I've returned at least three purple cams when the cam stops broke off due to what was an obvious design issue with the groove milled in the face of the cam. (A design issue since fixed but not acknowledged)

So now the rubber tubing that covers the wire cable at the base of the cam has split open on almost all my Master cams.

Rewrapping it in gorilla tape is a mediocre repair. Thinking of cutting off the existing tubing and rewrapping it with..????

Anyone out there have an clean fixes that hold up?

I have the same problem on my aliens and metoulious cams... the reason i have it is i put my fifi in the thumb loop so i can get very high for next piece then as i shift into upper steps my fifi grinds on rubber... I really dont mind the split and dont do anything but i would think seam grip or something would work well!!!

You could try plastidip and coat the thumb loops with a few layers. Haven't had this happen yet so can't say I've tried to fix it.

Plasti-Dip wouldn't work. It sets up no where near hard enough. Metolius simply needs to use harder plastic.

my ghetto fix is just using athletic tape, and fifi'ing into the biner clipped to the loop. losing a whole distance of 3 inches or less hasn't effected any of the pitches i've led since (only 25ish) as opposed to hudons 100's... I agree that they need to use burlier rubber! the bd camalot is practically impervious to to the fifi filet that is so common on mastercams.

Greg you're tall! I'm short! I need every inch I can get!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
