X-All Mountains or DMM's

I'm looking at getting a new pair of ice tools and am looking to get a bit of input.

All else equal, I'd go for a pair of X-All mountains. I got a chance to use them earlier this year and loved them. However CAMP is currently out of them with no clear timeline for when they'll get a new shipment, and I'd like to get a pair relatively soon so I don't need to keep borrowing my boss's pair. I've climbed on BD Vipers and wasn't a huge fan, at least not compared to the X-All mountains. Does anyone have experience with a pair of DMM tools, especially the Apex? I'm looking for something that will climb waterfalls and alpine well, none of this silly overhanging mixed business (sorry mixed climbers, I'm just intimidated). Should I wait and try to get a pair of X-All mountains, or take a chance with the DMM's?

How 'new' a pair are you talking about? Brand new, new designs, or just new to you? Watch here at MP for all sorts of tools for sale for good prices. Probably find something worth a season or two.

The X All-Mountain is an awesome tool and well worth the wait.

Take a look also at Petzl Quarks if you haven't already. The straighter shaft means it is great for alpine, but curved at the top for hard ice.

Save some time and energy, get some Nomic's! best all around tools! even if you decide to attack the crazy mix stuff we all love!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
