MJ makes me paranoid/nervous and/or absent-minded/spaced out. Which makes it ideal for when I'm safe at home watching the telly or playing guitar or hanging out by the campfire, etc. But out in the real world and the mountains where mistakes matter and fear must be owned, I do not think it has a place.

But that's me.

It's probably not fair to project my experience too much onto my partners/belayers, or anyone for that matter. But, my preference is for everyone to have a clear head when climbing. Though for some of my friends, that might be more difficult when sober. ha.

Vivica, I know who you are in real life. This behavior is unbecoming. You should stop.

It does for corporations that drug test applicants and employees, and I suspect most large companies conduct drug testing. I cant speak for every company, but the majority of corporations I have experience with have a zero-tolerance policy for drugs. They test their employees for drugs (weed included) every once and awhile, and if an employee is caught, he or she gets the boot.

Also, some HR directors/ interviewers, are VERY strict. I have a friend that has a master's degree. He was applying for positions that require a master's degree. He wore a 3-piece suit to the interviews (as most would agree he should). He never got any calls back despite his high qualifications.

Later he found out that he dident get any return calls because the interviewers preferred collared "aloha" shirts and khaki pants over 3-piece suits. So if an interviewer is unwilling to hire because s/he likes colorful aloha shirts more than suits, what do you think s/he would say about using weed?

The Paonia Purple People Eater always made me irresponsible, edgy, paranoid, and hungry at the crag.

Black Rhino OG Kush gives me laser focus, the strength of ten Sharmas, and a fierce dedication to belay safety and access conservation, with an acute awareness of the impressionable nature of little childrens and a deep sensitivity to family values.

Dr. Grinspoon usually leaves me adamant that my own experience encompasses the entirety of possible realities, so that's what I smoke when I post.

I work for companies that are more focused on performance and skills based evaluations. Not the color or style of my attire. Also I originally said I am probably a bit biased being a colorado native growing up in a much more accepting culture. I totally understand choosing not to smoke due to job restraints. I guess I am just lucky I have far more freedom then those of you in corporate America. Maybe if someone told you people that six figue income is possible without selling out to the corporate powers that be.

I can fully understand not trusting a partner you don't know when they're impaired. However one man's impairment is another's normal.

I find it funny that many people will trust complete strangers with their life, yet not trust the same stranger's judgment in their ability to climb while smoking/drinking. There's very few stoners I've met who can't handle their cannabis and the ones who can't are easy to spot. As most regulars smokers will attest to (and have) any impairment is minimal, especially in regular and routine activities. Lately I feel off and climb worse when I'm not smoking.

If I can ride a downhill bike at breakneck speeds over super gnarly terrain stoned off my ass with most of a six pack in me, climbing is pretty easy by comparison. I haven't found anything else that even comes close to consuming all of my attention and focus, and fully immersing me in the now where all thought ceases, like downhill mountainbiking does. That being said riding will never be an all consuming passion for me like climbing is.

Climbing and dh mountainbiking are obviously very different, my point above is to illustrate that impairment of motor functions or mental faculties is very minimal. Do I ride better after not smoking for months? Yes marginally so, but I have a lot less fun.

And it's legal.. And it's medical, even in DC...
So what about the people who take it for med. reasons?
They still drive, work, climb, and are normal people, people....

Some folks are in there box, and can not ration out of there box.
Just like political figures. Jus sayin..(not right or worng, jus sayin.)

It is not legal. The federal Controlled Substances Act, U.S.C. §801, makes it illegal to smoke weed on US soil, including in WA and CO. The DEA is not going to arrest any personal users, but they do arrest large distributors, including in WA and CO.

I understand the point you're trying to make but FWIW I would think that, if anything, the aloha shirt-loving interviewer is more amenable to weed than a stickler for a 3-piece suit would be...

The only thing I don't like are assholes at the crag. Believe it or not, some stoners are assholes. Plenty of nonsmokers are, too.

AS long as you are not an asshole, it's all good.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
