My favorite thing about rock pipes is that there are so many layers of wrong with them.

I think weed is great at the crag!

that said I dont blame those that dont want to rope climb with those that smoke/drink. not everyone handles themselves equally, some people could flat out be dangerous if drinking or smoking.

I climb and smoke weed daily. I would never bring it out if around people I dont know (in public) and I would never want someone to be uncomfortable because of it so I always tailor myself to my company/environment.

its a personal habit of mine that I greatly enjoy, its not for everyone and not everyone appreciates it. if you balance your desire to smoke with your environment (company, etc) youll always be ok.

weed and climbing = totally personal. if others dont im unconcerned. do both because you want to but balance you (desire) with the whole.

LOL, I bet you would jump at the opportunity to have one of the top climbers in the world belay you stoned(which a few of them always are). I'd give a lot of money to see you tell them no!

Never saw a bong skiing but there used to be one at the Antiphil Wall in Rifle years ago. It was nasty, always lying on its side in that filthy rifle dust and it had a hole or two in its stem. One day, I got sick of looking at it and picked it up as trash, figuring it hadn't been used in a long time. The next day, a beloved local who will remain nameless wandered around looking for his bong. I told him it made it to the dumpster and he shrugged, saying it was probably about time anyway.

I rarely show up at a crag with out a little herb.... But I suppose I understand people not wanting a belay from a stoned climber but none of my partners have ever cared, even those who do not smoke.... On the rock pipe discussion there is a few at hueco also one at my current local crag the tunnel, very convenient with border checks down south. And on acid/mushrooms and climbing has anyone ever climbed Deans trip in hueco, put up by Dean potter of course. (on a trip)

Living in Colorado my whole life i feel like I am a bit biased but I don't really think it is that big of a deal. As long as people are respectful and not smoking around families with a bunch of little kids or something I don't see much of an issue. The whole not letting someone belay you stoned is an obvious sign you have no idea what regular marijuana smokers experience when they are "stoned". As some have said already there are plenty of Professional climbers pulling down routes you and I could only dream of while stoned off their ass and belaying in the same condition.

I used to love blazing before getting tied in. It made the climbing seem much more epic and it sharpened my focus. But as I've gotten older I realized it just made me sleepy and distracted. Do it if you want, don't if you'd want. I doesn't bother me. I definitely take issue with Dudley Do-Rights at the crag getting all judgmental of people who choose to get stoned while they climb. Especially in Colorado where it's legal recreationally (although I recognize that technically smoking at the crag is still considered illegal under amendment 64, in practice that's not enforceable, It's hard to find a bar with a patio in Denver or Boulder without someone smoking a vape pen off in the corner).

I think an important exception to this is during the dry summer months when Eldo and other climbing areas strictly prohibit smoking due to fire risk. A joint is still on fire, even if the prohibition is specifically targeting cigarettes, you're putting our acces and people's safety at risk if you smoke herb during those high fire risk days.

There are also plenty of professional climbers who died climbing. Thanks for the ringing endorsement but I'll use my own judgement.

As long as you have data to show that one led to the other you can make that point. Otherwise you can add it to the long list of stuff you've posted here after pulling it out of your ass...

I have climbed with a number of top climbers (albeit not the "top-top" like Sharma, but guys who climb 5.14 or A5) and in some cases I wouldn't let them belay me period. Most of them are great, but a few of them are really lackadaisical.

I recall climbing with a Euro in Rifle last year. He was warming up on 5.13 and cranking 5.14- sends by the end of the day. Anyway, I offered him a catch and so he returned the favor. I was pulling the crux on a .11d, which was my onsight limit at the time, and I look down to see the dude had a loop of slack on the ground and he was staring off into space right as I was about to whip. I thanked him for the catch and went on my way.

Mushrooms were real easy for me to lead on, acid required more work.I used to smoke dope on the way to the climb before the climb, during the climb at belays, smoke and drink between climbs and climb again. Then smoke and drink on the way home.Loved it. Just have to be careful and not bring it out around little kids or people you dont think it would be cool around.
