Headed to Thailand to climb and venture around Nov 6th- Jan 8th. Who's all gonna be out there?!

I'll be out there in November but we've decided not to go climbing. It seems like too much hassle lugging all that gear around when we want to do multi-day treks in northern Thailand as well. How are you planning on managing venturing around with your climbing gear?

I'll be there from December 1-14 Phuket for a few days then railey for the rest of the time

Ill be in SE asia, mostly Thailand, from Dec to March... Im going with two other friends. We know someone in Bangkok, so that way we can leave our gear with them when we are traveling and pick it up when we are in climbing mode. Looking forward to multi-pitch mostly! WE are also looking into climbing in Vietnam and such. Should be fun... let me know if you wanna meet up! We are winging it with the acccomidations, hopefully that wont bite us in the ass, but we will find out. Have fun and seeya out there!

Hey I am headed to Thailand November 25th - December 10th ish. I am looking for a partner!!

I am climbing 23's here in Australia (5.11 c/d) but I am hoping to get into 24's before I get out to Thailand.

I don't have much of my own gear but I am happy to buy a beer for a stellar climbing partner!

Is that you up there Brett? Boone/SF, makes me think so. If you're heading down to Tonsai, definitely try to get on "Heart of Darkness," a 5 pitch 6c+ overhang. And Lord of Thais 7b multi pitch. Both excellent climbs!

Extra credit, try to get on some of the multi-pitch climbs on the island rock outcroppings. I never got the chance to do it, but they look sweet. You can hire a boat man or rent a kayak to access them. Look into it!

I'm interested in this exact, problematic situation as well. Anyone have any ideas? Just carry your rope, draws, etc. everywhere you go? Especially if you're not going to be climbing for a few days?

When I was there last fall, my friend and I were in the country for about 7 weeks. We spent almost 3 1/2 down in Tonsai, and a few weeks up north. We kind of made Chiang Mai our "home base" when we were up north, and when we traveled beyond there to places like Pai (which is an excellent spot to explore), we would leave our climbing gear at a hostel in Chiang Mai for multiple days with no problems at all.

Hope that helps

Sweet, am hoping to spend some time in Pai and around Mae Hong Song. Good to know that there are hostels willing to hold on to your stuff. Thanks

Anyway, to the OP, my basic plan is to be up north in December and down south in/around Tonsai in January.

I'm heading to Thailand from Colorado next week. Will be in Tonsai/Railay from Oct 27 to Nov 5thish then up to Chang Mai 5th thru the 10th.
It appears most of you won't be there til mid Nov but if anyone is getting their early let me know.

I'll be on mostly 10's and will have rope/gear.

Cheers,
Lee

I'm heading there for the first time - this time next year so I'd love to hear how it goes for you all and if you have a trip report to share that would be awesome!

I am currently living in Khon Kaen teaching English but we have our first break (and my first chance to travel/climb) for two weeks. It is from November 28th-December 11th. I would love to backpack, climb, explore, anything. I just gotta get out of the city! All I have to offer are my shoes and harness, but everything here is so god damn cheap I'm sure if we threw down on gear together it wouldn't cost too much.

Sweet! I can't wait!

Hey Colson!

I will be there from November 25th to December 6th. I want to adventure and climb! If you want a climbing buddy I would be down to meet up in Tonsai!

Hi HannahHilly!

That sounds great! I won't be able to meet up until the 28th, maybe even the 29th (depends on the last day of teaching) so let me know if you'd like to meet up somewhere else. Why don't we email so everyone doesn't get notified every time we message each other. My email is ceofkb@mail.missouri.edu. I haven't been able to climb in a almost 2 months so I'm super excited! I'll just wait for an email :)

I'm considering a trip to Thailand for a couple weeks at the beginning of Feb. Would it be too hot then, or is it still manageable?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
