Car camping in November?

I was hoping to get some input.

Planning a weekend trip the first weekend in November. Looking to take the girl and the pups someplace a little warmer than Flagstaff for some climbing and relaxation. Looking to try someplace we haven't been. What I'm looking for is a place that wouldn't be too crowded, would have warm weather (55°-85°), dog friendly (they would be going to the crag with us), good moderate climbing (5.6-5.10 trad/mixed/multi Granite would be awesome), close enough to a town that we could go out to celebrate with a birthday dinner, and not say more than 5 hours from Flagstaff.

Tucson is pretty much out. Been considering Iso, but I'm not sure what the weather is going to be like (too cold?). Not really keen on camping in Sedona. Considering Red Rocks, but was thinking about a place a little more remote and a little more dog friendly. Christmas Tree Pass has been discussed as well.

I know it's a tall order, especially with the pups.

Thoughts?

Cochise would work well. The west side is near to Tombstone for the restaurant requirement.

Thanks Geir. Cochise is definitely on the short list.. Been wanting to get back and check out the west side. Climbed a little on the east.

Go to the stronghold and go to Cafe Roka in Bisbee for your birthday dinner and you won't be disappointed. Make a reservation. They are on main street.Price is 18-25 dollars per meal, plan on 2 hours for dinner as it is four course.Used to go there all the time when I lived in Sierra Vista.

Iso can be a bit cold in early November, most of the main wall will be in the shade by noon or so. Finktion/Spaghetti western walls will be sunny for most of the day. But if the weather is nice, climbing in the shade is pretty tolerable.
There's free camping near the old trailhead with lots of firewood available. As for eats, I'd recommend Mama Joe's Italian grill in Strawberry for a bday dinner- it may be a bit pricey, but the food is excellent.

However, if you have high clearance 4x4, I'd recommend Homestead. Top notch limestone sport climbing and great camping and the weather will be primo by then. Only minus is the nearest town (Globe) is about 30-45 min away (depending on how fast you drive the 4x4 road), there's a nice Mexican restaurant just outside of town on rt 77 that's pretty good (I forget the name though).

Cheers. JB.

I second Cafe Roka as it is terrific. Make sure you check to ensure it's open though as the times and days change with the season.

Cochise West side would be my first choice.
Homestead second.
That's more for a sport climbing type of scene. Of course in the Stronghold you can get as trad as you want.

Of course, there's also Xmas tree but that rock is for old school types, very coarse desert granite. Hackberry, Hualipai Wall and Dream of White Whales are all in that area and remote/isolated trad stuff. Dream is more like sport climbing. In fact, I hear with someone's destruction of the original route (many new bolts, added belays, etc...) it's pretty much low angle slab sport climbing.

Well after all the great suggestions, I think the birthday girl is going to be too busy with homework to make a trip. We will sneak out for a few hours each day here in Flag. I definitely want to get back down to Cochise though. After climbing on the east side in the spring, I am hooked on all the fun chicken heads and pockets in the granite.

As for Christmas Tree, I definitely want to get out there soon as well. I grew up, and learned to climb not too far from there. Spent a lot of weekends over the summers climbing up in the Hualapais (In the park).

You should make a trip to Hackberry...

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
