South Platte - The Dome

On a recent trip to The South Platte the sign at the C Spires trailhead indicated The Dome was closed to climbing. Other than the seasonal raptor closure I am assuming this is old news at least based on recent posts and the new guide. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks!

The Dome is on private land, and as far as I understand it the landowner is amicable towards climbers. Do your best to stay on existing trails and you should be good to go. Unless of course something has changed with the private landowners stance toward climbers, but I don't think so.

The JCOS sign is a bit misleading and probably results from them trying to dissuade people from using JCOS land to access what is technically private property, even though the landowner hasn't objected to climber presence in the past.

The Dome is owned by JeffCo; the Bishop is privately owned. The Dome is open other than the seasonal closures. Keep in mind the approach described in my book does cross private property. If you wanted to be completely JeffCo land, you'd have to basically hike up to Sunshine and then traverse across over to the Dome.

I believe the sign says something like, "no public access". It's less than ideal verbiage to say the least. The Dome is open and on OS property, but there is no formal public access to it. However, the Priest family has always been friendly to climbers and continues to permit climber access across their property. They only ask that climbers not stray further onto their property and keep out if the quarry.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
