One: specifications. A book that legaly describes exactly what it is I am doing. Most big private sector (and even local government jobs like schools) have 2 spec books that average 1-1/2" thick. They are 100% thorough or there'd be lawsuits. A Fed job's spec books often are often at least 4 volume's at 3" thick per book. Crammed with redundancies and contradicting requirements. As an estimator, I will factor a multiplier of 1.4 on top of industry standard labor hours just b/c of that alone. Then there is paper compliance for shit like payroll and workman's comp. It requires 4-5 times the amount of time than in the private sector. And then, if it's a Corps of Engineer's job; RUN!!! Its not you personally, and I'm sorry I came off as usual as being a dick. I'm ranting about how fucked we have made ourselves. That you are a contractor I assume and not one of the regular employees who have been gifted an unexpected paid vacation; I am sorry. I was more severe than I needed to be b/c of your Keynesian affection. Its like someone telling me how awesome meth is, I feel compelled to try and help change course and I get a little aggressive. We really do need some rehab centers for those afflicted with the notion government creates jobs. We really do have a common enemy, its so frustrating that so few see it and want action taken. Its the Fed Reserve combined with the monstrosity of what K Street is. Only the Libertarians seek to at a minimum reform how that horrible system works and stop the daily cornholing we are all receiving.  |

Despite the fact that we come from opposite ends of the spectrum, it would appear that we share some similar takes on what needs fixing. For example, it is hard to see K Street as anything other than legalized bribery. I would say that the government does have a role in creating jobs in some sense. That is, a well functioning government is there to make conditions favorable for job growth (e.g. its hard to run a business without roads to deliver goods etc, right?) Anyway, have a good one. |
