"For the safety of all of our customers we are issuing an immediate recall of certain batches of Wild Country Classic Rocks and Anodised Rocks

If you own any Wild Country Classic Rocks and/or Anodised Rocks that were purchased any time from January 2010 onwards please read the PDF notices carefully and follow the instructions “How to Identify the Product”, so that you can ascertain whether your product is from one of the affected batches."

Yep. I've got 4 (Rocks 1-4) that need to go back. Sucks I'm on my honeymoon and found this out and didn't bring the second rack with us..... :(

I guess I've got an excuse to buy a second set of nuts--bought mine two years ago, and they're all subject to the recall (1-10). I had a real issue for a few minutes understanding the delay in spreading the word on this: the Wild Country site for the recall says it was issued 7/10/13, but Climbing just got around to mentioning it this week. If you are starting to get annoyed by this, like me, remember--the Brits write their dates the other way around (d/m/y), so that's October 7, yesterday, NOT July 10, nearly 3 months ago. I nearly got rather angry before I figured that out. I've been using these recalled nuts all summer! Ha!

Thanks to Allen and the folks at Climbing for the timely heads up.

So I ordered these for an 8 month trip that starts on the 17th. Of course 7 of the 8 I bought were recalled. Wild country says there is no way I'll get them back before my trip sooooo looks like I invested in a set of coubles a little earlier than I meant to. What should I buy as a set of doubles? I like these but would prefer something that will allow me to use both the rocks when they eventually come back and whatever new set I get. Slightly different sizes for different placement options would be perfect. Any suggestions?

No question... DMM Alloy Offsets and Peenuts.

I was curious as well where the failure point was - it wasn't mentioned at all.

I would think the most likely point of failure would be the swage, but that's just my assumption.

Guess I lucked out, out of my 1-10 set I only have one that is recalled. Guess this means I still get a free quickdraw from WC. It is worth noting for everyone checking their rack that despite me buying the nuts in a set, they all had wildly different product codes, so you have to look at every piece of your gear.

Given that superlight rocks (no swage) were not recalled, my guess is that it was the issue as well, but that's just speculation.

on the UKC forums the WC rep indicated the swags failed

on a related note DMM just said that this does NOT affect their nuts as they stopped making nuts for WC in 2010

Has anyone gotten replacements yet?

No replacement here yet, and I sent mine in the first day of the recall. Got my confirmation of receipt just over a month ago now.

I sent mine back in October and hadn't heard back, so I emailed them. This is the response I got:

"Wild Country Rocks Recall – Update: 12 Nov 2012

It is one month since Wild Country took the decision to recall certain batches of Classic and Anodised Rocks due to a very small number of units not making their rated strength. Since then we have had an amazing response from our customers with returns registered on the recall database in over 20 countries. We are pleased to say that despite the obvious inconvenience the overwhelming majority of feedback has been positive and we would like to thank everybody for their support and patience. We are acutely aware it is extremely frustrating to be without the Rocks that you have returned to us and we are working as quickly as possible to send out replacements.

Managing Director, Martin Atkinson is personally co-ordinating the recall and has issued the following statement to summarise the current situation regarding replacement product:
“As described in the recall notice we have set up a complete new production line to deal with the manufacture of the replacements at our factory in the Peak District. Due to this change in production location there has to be a re-issuing of the CE certificate for Rocks before we can release products in the EU. The type-examination (product testing) has been successfully conducted and the documentation concerning the assessment of conformity (production processes) is now being reviewed by the Notified Body responsible for this assessment process under the EU regulations concerning PPE (personal protective equipment). This means the re-issuing of the certificate is imminent and at this point we will be able to start release of product into the UK. In the meantime we have made some deliveries to the “far-flung corners of the world” non EU! and given the distances involved these customers should be receiving their replacement at about the same time as those in the UK.
As I said before we appreciate the frustration of being without your equipment and would like to thank you for your patience and understanding.”

As ever if you have any questions you can get in touch with us at: recall@wildcountry.com

If you were unaware of this recall and have any Rocks which you think may be involved in the recall you can go to our website to find out more: bit.ly/GCt0sr"

I sent mine in on Oct 12, 2013 and received the replacements (plus a quick draw and keychain) on December 26,2013.

Same for me, sent mine in Oct 12 and the replacements arrived Dec 27.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
